Ummmm... there is something really interesting to notice here:

Pay attention to who is working out together:
Big men -- Maliq and ManMan (with Begovich and Borden helping out)
Wings -- K2, Evans, Harris, and Gillis
and Guards -- Proctor, Foster, Sion... and COOPER!?!?!

Can't wait for Cooper at the 1 and Cooper at the 5 in the same game.
Grant Hill did that against GT once, when Hurley was out. Played the 5 on defense (when Laettner was sitting) and the 1 on offense. Cremins didn’t realize in time and Matt Geiger ended up on Hill, which did not out well for GT.

It really doesn’t surprise me to see Cooper doing offensive drills as a guard. He’ll be one the initiators on offense this season.

I remember hearing that Brandon Ingram would sometimes practice with the guards and sometimes with the bigs. He switched back and forth depending on the day. I could see Flagg doing the same.

Just saw a couple of videos on FB from I believe a very recent practice. Proctor, Foster, Kon, Cooper were together a lot with either Brown or Man Man. Maybe a preview of the starting lineup (or at least 4/5ths)?

This one is Proctor mic’d:

There also are a lot of photos from FB on the scrimmage. Looks to me that the lineups varied quite a bit.

We may just be seeing what we expect to see. But this is what I would expect to see... 🤓

I would bet Man Man is on a big upward trajectory too as he gets used to college basketball, his coaches, his teammates, and what everyone expects from him. That would be fun to watch on a week to week basis.

Are you saying… that maybe… Cooper will play multiple positions throughout the year and not just the 4?!?! ;)

This is not possible. AI generated. Rothstein just told us that Kon is starting at Guard. 🤪

Meanwhile over on IC, they are not happy that Rothstein is predicting the 6-7 Ven Allen Lubin will start at C over the 6-11 Jalen Washington.

jonathan givony saw 90 minutes of full scrimmage at Cameron (not the practice facility, so I suppose this was a "go time" day for full play in front of scouts):

"
The eyeball test says ...
Kon Knueppel was the best player on the floor for Duke -- and it wasn't particularly close -- while helping his team win all three scrimmages.

....He looks like he could be firmly in the mix as a top-10 draft pick if what I saw (and have heard) continues once the season starts.

I'm waiting for the comments after Countdown tomorrow night. Someone's a bit sick or off his shot, and he is totally discounted as a player this season. Wasn't that Flip two years ago?

I think it was 2 years ago that Christian Reeves blocked maybe 5 shots and some were predicting he'd challenge Lively for minutes! Speaking of...hope he's doing well at Clemson.

I'll be watching for how Man Man moves vs a proven college player like Maliq Brown. Does he seem a step slow? Or does he look ready to dominate?

He better be good. As Scheyer said in a podcast, no way as a Bears fan that he would recruit a Packer backer unless he was really really good…

Let's take that a step further. If we look at the rave reviews to show us who is playing best on the team right now, it's Flagg (Select Team), and Kon & Brown (raves for being the standout, raves for being the best defender). That sounds like a starting lineup of Proctor, Foster, Kon, Flagg, and Brown. Maybe with a chance that it's Sion over Foster, especially if they are building this to be a defensive juggernaut.

I like this potential starting lineup.

Just another potential option:. I could see slotting in Sion for Kon here. This could improve the defense (I know, I know, the jury is still out on Kon’s defense until we know more), and Sion looked like an awfully efficient offensive player last year scoring 14.0 ppg on 51% shooting, including 38% on 3-pointers on decent volume. He’s 6’6”, which is comparable to Kon’s supposed 6’7”, although it would be nice to have their height at the shoulder (which many of us think is more relevant).

That would give us Kon, Gillis, Maluach, and Evans as the probable 6-9 off the bench. We could rotate them in while ensuring that at least one of CFos, Proctor, or Sion are on the floor to run point. (Caveat: I kind of like the idea of hockey subs for this deep and talented team. Too many combinations of players makes it more difficult to know your teammates’ tendencies and to establish some sense of team continuity.)

I haven’t yet made up my mind about who the starting 5 will be, but I’ll let y’all know when the decision is in. Need to get input from Coach JS first.
dlmzz had a good take. I like today’s starting line up. I don’t know if any of us saw Tyrese not starting, but I’m a big fan of Sion and Brown and what they bring in terms of toughness and defense and experience. Tyrese is also a good defender, too. Curious to find out if he’s just not practicing well.
