2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

In honor of Gene Hackman's recent passing, that guy looks like he should be in Hoosiers.

Fun game.

And in case you were wondering (Mrs. CNC was), a Paladin is a mythical knight.
Lump Lump made both underhand FTs while I watched. Looked like Rick Barry except he only made 31% prior to this game.

60 Minutes did not turn their back on the best coach in the sport.

Start at the 8:50 mark of the first video.

Jon Wertheim: "I suspect it's very helpful to have someone in this household who doesn't necessarily rip her hair out when the team misses a screen or someone misses an open jum--"

Andrea Hurley: "I don't even know what a screen is. I don't even know what that is."

Dan Hurley: "With the way that I'm wired --"

Jon Wertheim: "You don't know what a screen is?"

Dan Hurley: "She doesn't know. She's not playing for the camera. She has no idea."

Andrea Hurley: "I have no idea."

You left out his discussion of his roster, which is bizarre. What a guy:

“50% of my roster or more is at least considering going in the portal, if not already knows what school they’re going to,” Hurley said. “And in a couple of those cases they’ve already talked to the coaching staff at a future school and have an idea of what their NIL is gonna be there.

It's a different kind of culture at UConn. Even if this were true at Duke, Jon would never say it on camera.

It will be interesting to see this portal season if there are more "test the water" cases like Seth Trimble. My sense is that the bidding war for some of the top players last year was beyond anyone's expectation. I'm thinking of those top Centers that the Heels couldn't land.

And this year with fewer players and more roster openings, I wonder if agents will be pushing harder for all players to go portaling to get their full market value.

If there's any truth to that, then you better believe Hurley has already talked to guy from other teams about portalling into UConn, and those guys have been given an idea of what their NIL is gonna be there.

Projection? Everyone else is doing it so I will too.

In reality this is where an agent earns their fees. Someone in the program (ideally not the HC) is engaging with agents to gauge mutual interest. It's that whisper time of the year...
