2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Big game tonight: #1 Tennessee (last unbeaten) at #8 Florida. On ESPN2. Some other game is on ESPN.
I think Florida has the size to give Tennessee problems but if the game is close at the end I think the Volunteers are just too tough. Hoping for a Gator win though…

Found the graphic. I'm not predicting Bailey will be a bust. But his 0.29 a/t ratio is a major yellow flag. He's in some rare company in this list.

Mo Wagner is a defensive savant? I agree with your point ("yellow flag"), but I'm not convinced by this guy's graphic. I don't remember any of these guys scoring 20 ppg on decent shooting splits as a freshman in a major conference. Ace may be a sample size of one.

I think that's fair. You can see the criteria he searched. He keyed on high usage instead of high scoring. Just spot checking a few of these guys.

Eric Paschall - 12.3pts
Derrick Williams (AZ) - 17.8pts
Tari Eason - 16.9pts

If Bailey drops in the draft, it will be because of this concern.

I’m as glad as anyone that Tennessee lost. But whatever happened to all the serious allegations against the Florida coach? Didn’t he allegedly stalk and photograph female students? Admittedly I haven’t kept up with it, but if true, it’s hard to believe that would get swept under the rug this day and age. Although I know he is winning this year.

I think the same thing whenever they’re on tv. Certainly seems like winning is sweeping that under the rug. IIRC though it was an official Title 9 complaint, so I imagine SOMETHING will come out about it, even if it is in way too long.

This makes me laugh. (One of many things that makes me laugh about that game.)

The Gators did mess one thing up: They sold students tickets to the public as part of a three-game holiday package. Police had to escort dozens of angry students out of their usual, courtside seats before tipoff.

Just a fun little game. Who are the 5 players, in order, who have exceeded your preseason expectations? I'll go first.

Sion
Kon
Cooper
Khaman
Maliq
I would add Tyrese to that list. Before the season began, many on this site didn't think Tyrese would have a good season. I wasn't sure, but I knew he was a good defender. Jon was a genius moving him to the #2 guard. Jon was even smarter when he made Sion the point-guard. They're an outstanding guard duo, on defense and offense.

GoDuke!

Sion clearly tops this list. I expected a solid role player off the bench. I wasn't even certain quite where he would fit. He is averaging more than 26 min (since placed in the starting lineup) on a loaded team, and we are undefeated with him as our starting point guard - enough said. Maliq has far expected my expectations, he just a defense menace and a reliable veteran who doesn't make many mistakes. He hasn't been quite at the level he was earlier in the season, but as Jon admitted post game he is likely still hindered by the toe injury. It is nuts to include Cooper considering all his preseason hype, but I still did not expect him to lead the team in EVERY category: points, rebounds, steals and blocks. I expected a lot from Tyrese and Khaman and they have been great. I had to leave Kon off this list because he had so much hype in the preseason. Righty so.
