2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Yeah, he's a talent. But I would say we have a freshman with a pretty decent all around game.

I left out "offensively". I think Jakucionis is a good defender but he's not close to Cooper. Here are their offensive numbers on the season.

Jakucionis
16pts, 5reb, 5ast, 87%FT, 43%3pt, 63%eFG

Flagg
17pts, 8reb, 4ast, 76%FT, 27%3pt, 48%eFG

I'm seeing Jakucionis as a top 5 pick in some mocks.

He is also turnover prone with 3.7 TO's a game. He is a good player, but this is his weakness.

Yeah, he's a really advanced offensive player for sure. Just making sure you meant offensively, because Flagg is a ridiculous talent all over the court. Not sure how much more "all around" there is.

Also, I assume Proctor will get the assignment. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Going against Tyrese is no picnic.

He's not the quickest. Our three guards plus Kon and Cooper can all stay in front of him. And he won't have a height advantage. He's VERY good using ball screens, so a lot will depend on how Khaman and Maliq contain him with their hedging.

He doesn't scare me. I think we may be the best team in the country to lock him down. I just enjoy watching him create plays with the ball.

First time watching Rutgers, losing badly at home to Wisky. Rutgers playing poorly and obviously not cohesive at all.

Unless they turn it around quickly, the season is lost despite having two OAD superstars. Bailey very cold tonite.

Yeah, I checked in on the game at the end of the half and then watched the first 8 minutes of the second. Neither team was impressive but Rutgers had zero offensive flow. Apparently Harper is under the weather but Bailey was very off.

Bailey has been pretty off all year. Not an efficient player.

He’s scoring 20 a game (plus almost 8 boards) on 48% shooting and 35% from 3. Kid has been terrific everywhere but at the line.
As a guard in 34mpg , he is averaging 0.7 assists and 2.3 turnovers. That's like all-time bad territory.

I saw a graphic comparing his production to other similar college "stars" and they were all NBA busts.

The assist numbers aren’t good I agree with you there. But I will also add that in the games against the two best opponents they’ve played so far, which are Alabama and (probably) Indiana, Bailey has a total of zero turnovers in 74 minutes. And scored 61 points. Pretty sure his coach is pleased with that.

Let’s see how he does in the bulk of the big 10 season.

No, it's not that those assist numbers aren't good. They are all-time terrible for a guard with his usage.

Wish I could find the graphic of the guys with similar college profiles. None of them made it in the NBA. It's "processing issues", not being a poor passer, that limit assists to that degree...

I think you’re being too harsh. Yes, Bailey needs to improve his decision making and move the ball better. But he is, first of all, a 6’10” wing. He’s also 18 years old with what, ten or twelve college games under his belt? He’s an uber athlete and shotmaker whose skill level, three level scoring, and athleticism are pretty intriguing to NBA folks. He may be a better NBA player than college player actually now that I think about it. When I watch him I see a Michael Porter Jr or a Brandon Miller type. Not a primary ballhandler or distributor. A tall, athletic, scoring wing. But give the kid a chance — he’s very young still and has tons of room for growth in many aspects of his game. But the tools are there.

Found the graphic. I'm not predicting Bailey will be a bust. But his 0.29 a/t ratio is a major yellow flag. He's in some rare company in this list.

Bailey and Harper are great individual talents but they don't effect winning. If Harper had come to Duke we wouldn't be nearly as good.
