    2024-25 Announcer Thread

I was always a Yankee fan growing up and in particular, Maris, who I felt was an underappreciated all around player (the home run seasons really were not indicative of the solid kind of player he was). Then he was traded to my other favorite team, the Cardinals, my favorite team because my...

Stanford, Cal, and SMU - Welcome to the ACC

I knew the Searl family and played basketball against Rich in high school. A tougher guy you never met. His going to Duke was the first time I thought about attending Duke. That was a good team until the injuries stopped them.

Maris joined the Cardinals in 1966.

Who will be the greatest player from Duke in NBA History ?

Jeff Mullins won an Olympic gold (1964), an NBA championship (1975), and averaged over 16 points a game in 8 different seasons, without a 3 point line! I think he has merit to be on this list.

    Maliq Brown injury vigil

Let's say that Maliq stays out until mid February and in the meantime Duke loses 2 games. Is he a key enough player that the NCAA tourney people will discount those losses due to his absence?

    Duke Football 2025

I assume most are in their 5th year of high school. A lot of the "re-classifications" are back to their original classes, judging by the age of some of these 19-20 year old freshmen.

MBB: Duke 86, Notre Dame 78 Postgame Thread

Just a question and a comment: 1. Has there ever been a comment on DBR where someone said, I'm so glad Duke got the benefit of the whistles and were allowed to shoot so many foul shots? 2. I think we have exactly the best coach for our team in the country.

MBB: Duke 86, Notre Dame 78 Postgame Thread

ND looked quicker than Duke in the way they were able to beat us to the basket in the second half. That concerns me. There are quicker teams out there. But if you have a quick team that at the same time is making 60% of its 3 pointers, you're going to have a problem. Our offense bogged down...

    FB: 2024 Bowl Games

I was rooting for Penn State last night mainly because I have relatives and friends who went there, and they are the eastern powerhouse. I don't buy that there are more than maybe 2 SEC teams better than they are this year. Furthermore, I don't think that more than maybe 4 or 5 programs have...

    Duke Football 2025

Don't know if this is the right place, but I just got a Sporting News notification that Carson Beck transferred to Miami.

    MBB: Duke 76, Pitt 47 Post-game Thread

Per Mkirsh's last question, I have never figured out the rule about someone drops the ball when they receive a pass, or dribbling, then catches the ball, then starts dribbling again. Sometimes it's called a travel, sometimes not. Is there a hard and fast rule, or not?

    FB: 2024 Bowl Games

Frankly with Riley's outstanding athleticism and intelligence, I'm surprise he hasn't developed more as a passer. I felt he had more natural talent than Daniel Jones. Oops, maybe not the best analogy right now.

    Cooper Profiles

Athletically, Cooper reminds me of one of my few all time favorite Cheaters (before they cheated I think), Bobby Jones. Uber athletic, amazing defender, except Cooper does so much more on the offensive end.

Regarding our ability to close out games, I would feel a lot better if Cooper weren't still losing the ball while spinning in the lane. I thought for a while he had cured that problem but now it's back. Otherwise, I agree that Duke is not the same team as it was in November.

Buh bye! Mack Brown out at UNC, Bill Belichick in

I'm torn whether I want to see Belichick screw Unc. But it doesn't seem to matter, the Las Vegas team denies talking to him about the job and Belichick's representatives are denying that he's talking to the NFL. They say he doesn't like the direction the NFL has taken. As if college is a bed of...

I don't necessarily believe in the theory that someone has to play so he won't transfer. However, I really think Foster is going to be vital next year and I think the coaches are trying to keep him relevant because they see a future for him.

I did love that team. Those were some tough guys!

    2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

Part of the problem is that in today's system, where players are much more transient, you have to restock every year. I don't think UNC is going to be keeping top players 3 or 4 years anymore. An under achiever like Trimble has been, maybe, but not a Davis, Bacot or Paige.

Castle was also a great player for them last year, especially on the defensive end.

    2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I wonder if the UNC BOT has decided to emphasize football at the expense of basketball. We're not hearing any anxiety over there about the basketball team the way we did about football.
