Having spent 9 long months in freshly emptied brandy barrels, Hoax is a behemoth of a beer, joining the crew of misfits—Trickery, Foolery, and Ruse—which have landed among the most highly rated milk stouts in the world. Bold oak and dried fruit character mingle with dark chocolate and roasted maltiness for a complex drinking experience.

I like the “crew of misfits,” seems appropriate.

Local? It will be this weekend.

Credit-RJ199 and the beergoddess with an assist from some gal named Stella
    Style-says IPA but looks/drinks like a NEDIPA
    Format-another shortage causing pint can
    Stemware-think maybe a Stella snifter?
Appearance-pineapple grapefruit juice with a 1.5 finger foam topping
    Nose-lemon, orange and pineapple
    Mouthfeel-mild/moderate bitterness
Tastes-lemon orangeade with honeydew and a generous dose of cantaloupe; fuse is right, as usual
    Hops-Citra double dry hopped
    IBU-likely <60
ABV-7.7%; on the border for IPA/DIPA
Overall impression-DDH Citra? yes, please, I'll have another
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; not fantastic but really close and I'd grab a 4 pack of this if I saw it to share/trade. Sorry Nrrrrvous missed some New Anthem brews
Sounds delish, I'll have to find something up here worthy of a trade!

None of those sound artificially enhanced either.

We've seen photos of Oak Island in the aftermath. You escaped at a good time. You'll have to visit again and look for some good Wilmington beverages. You won't be disappointed.

    Last nights selection -

Steam Bell Beer Works - Extra Plenty Gose (Not to be confused with Bell's Brewing)

Local? - About a mile up the road, got this one from a neighbor

I've been to Steam Bell a couple times, never been blown away by them but that probably had more to do with the clientele and obnoxiously loud tunes, only a little to do with the beer.
    12oz can into a snifter
Scarlet/Cherry in color with 1/4in of foaminess

Says it is brewed with Hibiscus and Cucumber. Could definitely tell the Hibiscus, not so much on the cucumber. Ends up as an almost watermelony flavor. A touch of salty to balance it out.

    ABV - 5.4
    IBU - ? Pretty low

Overall another great summer beer. I was pleasantly surprised, enjoyed from start to finish. Not as "fruity" as some of the Veil brews, not as sour as a pure "sour" beer, but a good blend.

High Cat 2, possibly try to find some more for more testing?

Forgot to review from Tuesday -

Center of the Universe - Rally Cap Grapefruit Shandy

    ABV - 5.0%
    IBU - 15

I've really enjoyed just about everything I've had from COTU. Want to get back there and pick up some stock.

This one was no exception. A great shandy that I'll have to do a more thorough review of when I have the time.

Their Pocohoptas is a really good West Coast IPA and if I recall, their Chameleon can be really good. (They change up the hops in the Chameleon, just to experiment, but keeping it a Hazy/NEIPA)

Clearly I am taking this beer for granted.
I definitely enjoy it, and do actively seek it out from time to time.

Aviator’s Devil’s Tramping Ground is another local Belgian style tripel worth trying if you liked RBC Hell Yes, Ma’am.

    I had almost forgotten about Aviator's well-named DTG .

    Another One IPA

    7% ABV

    Maine Beer

Hmm, if this is still on draft at Bottle Rev tomorrow, aka a FrIPAday discount, a mini-growler might make its way to the NC coast this weekend.
