It's outside the boundary of the contest, but against expectations Sonic the Hedgehog is getting decent reviews and looking at an opening weekend of $60-70MM.
And like the tar heels, appears to be bound to finish 15th …
Which is worse, Terminator underperforming the animated Addams Family and Spies in Disguise, but ahead of Cats and Dolittle (Do Little?) …
or the heels finishing behind Wake, Pitt, BC and Ga Tech?
Rhetorical question
I'm calling it.
Birds of Prey did $17.1 mil over the weekend, a drop of about 48% from its opening weekend. This film is going to struggle to even get to $100 mil, let alone the $200 mil it would need to come in 5th place.
Meanwhile, Bad Boys For Life did $11.3 mil and has now topped $180 mil in total boxoffice. I'd make it all but a lock to reach $200 mil and comfortably take 5th place in our contest over Knives Out ($161 mil) and 1917 ($144 mil).
Mad props to Acymetric!
-Jason "so, the next question is do I start the summer contest in April or May? April includes No Time To Die (Bond 25) which could be a real contender and make it harder to pick the top 5 of summer... but I'll leave that for another thread in a few weeks at least" Evans

I took my 8 year old son to see Sonic on Monday afternoon. I went in expecting the worst... and came away pleasantly surprised. There were some funny parts, some touching parts and some good video game style action. The only thing I really didn't like was Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey as the villain.
Had this movie come out in November of 2019 (as originally planned), going up against Frozen II, and with the terrible CGI design of Sonic no way it makes 70MM opening weekend. The Internet's reaction to the CGI Sonic in the first trailer and the subsequent delay while the Sonic character was re-done probably saved this movie.
