Woj says this is what Utah gets... quite a haul.

Full trade: Utah is trading Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland for Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, Collin Sexton, three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps, sources tell ESPN.
Sexton and the Cavs have been squabbling about his new contract. Not super surprised they decided to send him out but he has been pretty darn good thus far in his career. Are they maybe worried he won't recover from his injury last season?

Mitchell and Garland are both 6'1''. That's really small.

But the Cavs up front have Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in the paint, so it may not matter.

And so it's done..the Knicks would have also had this issue with a Brunson/Mitchell backcourt. I am happy they didn't pull the trigger, but I have no idea if it was the right move or not.

Advanced metrics on Sexton are mixed at best. I think his ceiling is probably a poor man's Mitchell, but even that may be a stretch, especially if the torn meniscus has lingering effects. Both are undersized, high usage shooting/combo guards with similar true shooting percentages. But Mitchell's assist, rebound and steal rates are all superior, with comparable turnover rates, and metrics suggest he's the better defender as well (though neither is a standout on that end).

Interesting but not that surprising that the Cavs are already giving up on Markkanen. He has talent but no natural position in today's NBA - not agile enough to defend 4s or enough of a rim protector and defensive rebounder to be a full-time 5. He's certainly skilled offensively, but not enough to make up for his defensive deficiencies at either spot, at least as a starter.

Sams Char reporting that Gallo has a torn ACL. Likely means he is out much of the season. Not a devastating injury for the Celtics, but they certainly expected him to be a significant part of the front-court rotation.

Ouch. Gallo was there to help spell time off from Horford and Williams (Horford is old, Williams is injury prone).

Gallo wasn't expected to play much in the playoffs, but now either Horford or Williams (or both) may not be healthy for the playoffs either...

The Utah trade is likely to spark another round of trades.

Brian Windhorst thinks Utah will flip whoever they can for more picks. Sexton cannot be moved until later since he is signing a new contract.

Zach Lowe on his podcast thought the Lakers were trying to become a third team to facilitate any Donovan deals. There's talk of the Lakers trying to package Westbrook and two 1st round picks for either Buddy Hield/Myles Turner or Bogdanovic/Mike Conley. No one thinks Lebron will let the Lakers stand pat.

Frank Jackson has been signed to a non-guaranteed contract by the Phoenix Suns. Likely battling the likes of Dwayne Washington Jr, Josh Okogie, and Damion Lee to be 4th or 5th man in the backcourt rotation. None of those guys are on prohibitive contracts that make them impossible to waive so Frank has a chance.

    Bojan Bogdanovich to the Pistons

An under the radar, but potentially very interesting, move: Utah has sent Bojan Bogdanovich to the Pistons for Kelly Olynyk and Saben Lee.

For the Jazz, this goes with their continued rebuild. Olynyk is there for salary purposes (but is still a very viable rotation piece, especially on a young/bad team), while Lee is a guy who has shown a lot of potential for the Pistons. Given Bogdanovich's salary and only a year remaining on his contract, getting a young guy that they can test out in exchange is probably all the Jazz could hope for.

Meanwhile, this move makes a ton of sense for the Pistons and could mean they think they're a playoff team this season. Lee showed promise, as I mentioned, but was never going to find real rotation time behind Cunningham, Ivey, and Hayes. Olynyk was redundant as soon as the Pistons invested in Marvin Bagley... and the fact that they got out of two years of his contract in exchange for one from Bogdanovich is pretty savvy on Troy Weaver's part. Meanwhile, there's Bojan himself, who averaged 18 ppg for a playoff team last season and fills a major need for the Pistons as a wing three point specialist. That was a major need for the Pistons, but now a combination of him, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Livers (who had a very promising end of his rookie season and a stellar summer league) fills that hole nicely. Bojan's experience will also be huge for such a young core.

If I was a betting man, I'd put a few bucks on the Pistons making the playoffs this year. They're so young that things could go poorly, but there's a real possibility that the stellar draft and this trade have accelerated the timeline significantly.

Amazing video where a guy compares Kobe and Lebron by using glasses of water.

The Boston Celtics signed Blake Griffin to a one year deal! This puts them over the top. Just write their name on the trophy right now.

Seriously though, if Wiseman plays this entire season like he did in that preseason game last night the Warriors are the ones that should have their names stamped on the 2023 trophy right now. They are absolutely loaded.

I've always liked Blake. I think that's a solid veteran addition.

I like him, too. I’m just not sure how much he can actually contribute on the court. But it’s a good pickup for the Celtics.

Yeah. He’s great cus he’s all athleticism and power…the issue is he is no longer athletic and his power doesn’t work well without the athleticism.

Okay pickup by the Celts. Doubt it cost them anything

Well, it costs them $2,641,691 to have him on the roster (that's his contract as a 12-year vet).

Kinda funny that Blake is considered washed up athletically at age 33. Meanwhile, Lebron is still truly elite at 38.
