I didn't check in for a couple of days, and all heck broke loose. Not sure how to wrap my head around all this.

Local for one of the beer porters.

    Credit-Nrrrrvous; thanks!!
    Style-ummm
    Container-pint can
    Glassware-wine glass
Appearance-slightly cloudy, light golden amber; modest, fizzy head
    Nose-flowers, apples, pears and honey
    Mouthfeel-bubbly
    Tastes-just like the nose
Adjuncts-honey, triticale (from Durham), oats (from Charlottesville)
    IBU-maybe 20
    ABV-5.8%
Overall impression-not exciting but a very well crafted saison
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2, peering into cat 3; good pairing with turkey, cheese and tomato sammich, chips and veggie sticks

Wait, I thought you just retired this week? Or was it last week?

Yes, but we've been trying to get to Ocracoke since two years ago.

The trip was delayed, not my respite in unemployment.

    Connection/timing understood.

Also, in the interest of clarity, "retirement" is a pretty self-congradulatory way of putting my current situation.

I'm trying to figure out what comes next, but not in a rush.

Also, keeping on topic, New Belgium Lim Lager is surprisingly not bad. Not something I would ever purchase in a six-pack, but I find it refreshing and pleasant when it comes up in a mixed 12 pack.

Yea, sorry, it really didn't sound like retirement. Now, mine will be real in a year or two.

New Belgium is a really good company for many reasons ("green," locations, pricing, innovation, etc). I've never visited their AVL location but, after COVID, it'll be on the list. I can't think of a bad beer they've ever brewed (but, I've never had their Atomic Pumpkin and likely never will unless Tripping William buys me one). They have a lot of good/very good core beers and have brewed some fantastic one-offs over the last couple decades or so.

Their sale here caused a lot of consternation among employees. They voted and it passed, but the purchasing company had some shady dealing in the past. I believe it was Kirin and Myramar, but I could be mistaken.

Lemme research that one; I need to refresh my memory anyway . I thought NB had been sold but couldn't remember if it was to a private investment group or one of the "big beers." I'm pretty sure it wasn't InBev or Miller/Coors.

FWIW (not much, probably), NB at minimum used to be a client of the Denver office of my firm. Matter of public record. May still be, but I haven’t checked their TM filings recently.

Great find/read. Beat me to it. Thanks! I didn't realize there was that much controversy to their sale. Very sad.

TW has promised one at a date/time TBD. Yay and thanks! I'd bet the "exchange" takes place at some "shady" location, literally and/or figuratively.
