If the beer is as impressive as the air-filled plastic in which each bottle was individually wrapped for shipping, I’ll be thrilled.
Yea, it'll be really intriguing to read your/my/our impressions () over the next few months and compare notes. Lucky me; RJ traded me 2 of these plus a Dragons and Matches via lottery/draft for a couple DFH surprises and 8 Ohio brews with no cash or future draft choices involved in the transaction .

    Earlier in the day -

The Veil Brewery - The Motive
    8% ABV
Straight from the Can to a Louisville Slugger Museum Pint Glass (Ah, memories)

From the site - "The Motive is a brand new Sour DIPA brewed with lots of raw wheat, fluffy flaked oats, and milk sugar. We hopped this one with fresh Citra and juicy El Dorado hops then crushed it with pineapple, mango, peach, and vanilla. Big impressions of pineapple Sunny D, round vanilla, and Dreamsicles."

No one combines the hops with the fruit with the oats with the sugars quite like The Veil. Absolutely wonderful.

Easy Category 3, especially for someone like me who likes sours. Just so many flavors rolling around in there. Ymm, Beer Indeed!

Given the bottle “air armour” I can’t imagine what effort it took for the third box to be sampled in shipping. 😱

    Reads deeelicious.

Please, oh please let one of these be included in RJ's pick-up from RVA next weekend.

The Dragons and Matches sounds delicious.

You'll need extra Ritz crackers and/or pita chips for the Dead Man's Suit and Thai.

While watching Christmas Vacation tonight to kick off the holiday season -

The Veil Brewery - Never Calm^3

    7% ABV

From their site - "Never Calm³: Xtreme is our triple fruited Gose conditioned on ridiculous amounts of pineapple and passion fruit purées and blasted with our proprietary Xtreme treatment. Dripping with tropical flavor – this is about as intense as it gets."

So, I know what the "Xtreme" treatment is now - they take everything out that could remind you that you are drinking an alcoholic beverage!

This was the perfect dessert for tonight. Enough sweet to make you think of a fruity milkshake. Enough tart to pucker your mouth. Enough juice to make you swear it would be healthy for breakfast. No way it's 7%. Just amazing.

I'm not sure how they can still sell this as beer but I'm not complaining.

Surprise - I rate it an upper Category 3. You need to try this sometime.

Rumour has it Nrrrvous is going to whip up some great options in exchange for a Haw River four pack.

I’m quite confident I’ll be smiling when RJ returns to town. 😁

Making hot toddies, but using home-made butterscotch syrup instead of sugar. Not sure what to call it — there’s a name for it I’m sure — but damn it is perfect for a cold night!

Sounds even better; kinda like home-made simple syrup to make a mint julep. In a pewter mug, of course. With mint from your backyard (or your neighbor's) .

    Butterscotch
    1 1/2 C brown sugar
    1/2 C light corn syrup
1/3 C butter (I used Irish butter — higher fat content)
    2/3 C heavy whipping cream
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp apple cider vinegar
    1/2 tsp rum extract

    1. In a medium saucepan bring the brown sugar, corn syrup and butter to a boil (take your time getting there)
    2. boil until the syrup reaches 240 degrees (remembering to adjust for altitude)
    3. take off the heat and let cool slightly, about 5 mins
    4. stir in the heavy whipping cream
    5. add the salt, apple cider vinegar and rum extract and stir
    6. let cool
