I slept through it. My office for the last one to hit NC (Mineral, VA?) was halfway underground, which made the experience very interesting.

5.1 magnitude, largest in 94 years. Sparta NC is 3-4 miles from the Virginia border and about 40 miles west of Mt. Airy (by mountain roads).

RJ199 sent me this a few minutes ago with Charlotte substituted for VA and 2020 for 2011:

Hopefully, no regional residents experienced anything more than a few minor tremors, from this or any other natural disasters in their lifetime.

I saw some images of structural damage to buildings closer to the epicenter, although I haven't done anything to verify that it was as a result of the earthquake.

In all seriousness, my wife showed me some photos of some cracked asphalt in a few roads and some brick work that had separated a bit from a house frame.

Right, I didn't mean to suggest there was any manner of devastation or anything. Just that there was some real damage involved.

Agreed. Plus, my tipped over lawn chair was not meant to be insensitive to the catastrophic damage done with other earthquakes in our lifetime.

Early reports from our farm have a couple picture frames down off the wall and a drinking glass that walked off a counter, but nothing structural that’s obvious.

We’re breathing a sigh of relief!

The Govenator was in Sparta yesterday. 25 Spartan homes condemned as uninhabitable so far. Also a big crack appeared.

WBTV in Charlotte's crack team has a followup story on the Sparta quake.

The Crack may predate the earthquake.
