17-9 Blue Devil win
Loyola gets one to make it 16-7 early 4th
17-9 Blue Devil win
Absolutely did not see a blowout coming.
Nine points for McAdorey.
More tomorrow morning.
Well, that was … unexpected. Loyola’s vaunted defense, which came in giving up only 9.3 goals per game, was absolutely shredded by Duke in a 14-goal first-half explosion. Some ot was poor strategic decisions (poling Balsamo? Leadmon says, “why, thank you, I will have a hat trick”). Some of it was bad, bad breakdowns (how did Frisoli get so open right in front?) But mostly it was Duke executing to near perfection. Everything looked so easy.
The mods really shined, combining for eight goals. And Duke really showed off its midfield depth, as all three units contributed points. The three lines appear to be settled now: Leadmon/Danenza/Balsamo, O. Caputo/Schelling/Pappendick, and Catlett/Landin/Mackenzie.
If you watched Duke’s shorties dominate their matchups last night, you wouldn’t guess that that was an area of real concern entering the season.
Naso’s 18-26 night puts him at 64.9 percent for the season.
Cheats are next.
I thought Bob Green and Jason Evans had excellent nights.
All of the points are correct, but motivation has always improved Duke's performance. We are always motivated against UNC and UVA. I think you can add Loyola to that list for a while. A subpar Loyola team (by their standards) humiliated us last year, and it's entirely possible the team recalls Donna Woodhouse, the assistant AD at Loyola, from the Selection Show. I like Angry Duke, but you can't use that emotion for an entire season. Duke is now 3-1 in avenging last year's losses. @ND is going to be very tough.
Patrick Stevens, excellent as usual.

Duke’s RPI and SOS took a beating on Saturday: Denver, Penn, and Syracuse all lost.
It’s possible that UVa, ND, and Duke will be 1-2-3 in the polls when they update tomorrow. ACC resuming its rightful place as the power conference.
As predicted, Duke moves up to number three in both the IL and Nike/USL rankings.
Need a respite from the onslaught of basketball (32 games today, as the women join the men in action)?
We got yer respite right here: number three Duke men host the number 13 Cheats. The Cheats are 4-2, but haven’t beaten anyone really impressive; their “statement” wins are over Hop and Cuse. They’ve lost to Denver and Ohio State.
Their offensive stats are artificially inflated by putting up 25 on Mercer in the season opener; take that away and they’re barely averaging 10 goals per game. On the other hand, the defense has been solid, giving up less than eight. Duke nemesis Collin Kreig has a sane percentage of 58.9. Attackman Logan McGovern, a grad transfer from Bryant, leads the team with 24 points (14G, 10A).They win barely 50 percent of faceoffs.
A repeat of last year’s Blue Devil romp is possible, but when it’s Duke and Carolina, one never knows, do one.
6:00 p.m. Eastern at Koskinen and on ACCN.
Duke leads, 6-1, after Q1, and will be man-up to start Q2. Cheats can’t get anything in settled offense.
9-4 at the half. Officials gifted Cheats two late goals. Dyson with a hat trick on three shots. Krieg having a tough night, with three saves vs. nine GA. Naso 9-13.
Duke stops the bleeding. Back to a three-goal game.
11-8 after three.
On the ACCN broadcast it sounds like more Cheats fans are in attendance than Duke fans.
Helm is having a great game in goal with 11 saves. Duke leads 13-8 with 8 minutes left.
15-8 is your final! GTHCGTH!
450th career win for Coach Dano.
