There are plenty of creative solutions that could be used to allocate injury risk, but it’s unlikely that Boras will agree to anything like that. So Cohen and Eppler have a decision to make.
Yeah, but where does Boras go if the Mets call his bluff? Who is left that will spend that kind of money? The Dodgers now that the Bauer situation is a little more clear?

If anything the Bauer conclusion makes it less likely the Dodgers will spend. They appear to be consciously staying under the tax line this winter to be positioned to spend big on Ohtani next winter. So now being on the hook for Bauer’d salary reduces the likelihood they will add.

You are correct about the Dodgers, but I am skeptical about Lux at SS and I don't know who else is willing to spend for Correa. And at least the Dodgers know the number now and they are not on the hook for his full salary - and maybe they can trade him. But you're also right it's probably moot because they want Ohtani. The Red Sox? Yankees? Do the Giants come back into the mix?

Giants roll the dice on Conforto’s shoulder. Two years, $36 million, opt-out after the first year.

Dodgers DFA Bauer. Let’s see just how toxic he is.

    Hope Correa kept his apartment.

BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.
If it's a flat per-year salary, the first two years are a slight pay cut from what he opted out of, but more per-year than the multi-year deal the Twins had offered him after he opted out and before he "signed" with SF.

Demented and sad, but social, right?

    “Are finalizing..”

LOL fool me twice - there are still 26 MLB teams he hasn’t signed with yet this winter. Not to mention the Pirates.

    And this:

    “pending a physical”

Why leak announce this before a physical? And - shouldn’t the Twins have the information they need already?

The big winners in all of this are Eduardo Escobar and Brett Baty, who still have jobs playing 3B for the Mets.

Another piece of big off-season news: Correa’s deal with the Twins is off and reports are he is now in discussion with the Giants again.

Just kidding. Robo-umps will be rolled out in all AAA parks next year. There will be continued experimentation with the format — some will have the system call all balls and strikes and some will use the challenge system, with the ump calling balls and strikes but each team getting three challenges.

From the article it sounds like the challenge format is gaining steam and I’m in favor of that. It keeps true to the way baseball has been played and called forever, but provides a meaningful way to challenge the types of egregious missed calls that can really impact games.

Gotta have a timer for challenges like that. In international cricket the captain has 15 seconds to challenge an out/not out call by the on-pitch umpires, and all the tv feeds put the timer in a box on the corner of the screen. TV also gets all the audio and video that the upstairs umpire gets when reviewing a call. It’s awesome.

Good idea. Would the pitch clocks essentially do that? I think the pitching team has 15 seconds to pitch so if they are stalling to decide whether to review, they will expire the pitch clock.

You'd have to run the pitch clock even on a batting change, but it seems to me that would work.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed FA Andrew McCutcheon to a one-year contract reportedly worth 5 million dollars. The Cardinal killer has reunited with the team that signed him and should receive a great welcome from the Pirate fans this season. The 36-year-old outfielder is still one of the best defensive players in the majors, even though he's lost a step in the outfield. He's been an excellent hitter against lefthanded pitchers with a +900 OPS. Andrew will be a great mentor to the young players on the team.

The New York press was discussing that the Mets were interested in bringing him in. Too bad. Would have been a good addition.

He is apparently averse to being grotesquely overpaid !!
