Yes. Justin makes putt, Sergio misses, and USA wins 18 to halve the match and that is some momentum. But probably too long for our attention-deficit population. Give me my 10 seconds of drama! My GIF! My meme!

Seems like not even having Koepka and BAD on the course at the same time is a smart strategy

Players playing both morning and afternoon matches:
USA - Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele
Europe - Jon Rahm, Paul Casey, Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy

I hope Bryson goes for the green off the first tee here in his afternoon four ball match with Scheffler against Rahm and Hatton. The crowd is going to be jacked up!

On the par 4 364 yard opening hole in four ball, Bryson pulled his tee shot left off the shin of a woman sitting in the gallery. Not an ideal start. There’s not much meat on your shin. She’s going to have a good sized goose egg there within 5-10 minutes that won’t go away for a while (several days/weeks).

All of the crowd except for the woman he just hit in the leg with his tee shot.

    I will say: Seeing BAD playing in a baseball cap is . . . . . disorienting.

Yes it is. Used the bank off the woman’s leg, hit a magnificent flip shot from the rough to about 10-12 feet, then drained a birdie. What a first hole for Bryson.

Lord, I wish Tirico would stop with the inane historical efforts.

Yea, I find him somewhat annoying too. Even though he went to NC State (and occasionally throws in a dig at Duke when Kevin Streelman is playing), I actually prefer Terry Gannon (who was the main announcer for this morning's matches) to Mike Tirico.

Twitter going a little crazy after Bryson hit a drive 417 yards on a par 5, leaving him 70 yards to the pin.

How do you leave that birdie putt short on 18 in a tied match when your playing partner has a two-foot putt for par? Very disappointed in that effort by JT, even though overall the US did well.

I have to admit I was quite shocked by that as well. JT had just shown that he can be clutch, and he got the yips on that last one. Very weird.

But a great first day for the Americans!
