Is it my imagination, or is the Earth REALLY done with us?

Floods, fires, heat waves… does it seem like world climate has just collapsed quickly and dramatically, or is it my imagination?

    Can't it be both?

    -------------

Yes, the earth is done with us. Why do you think so many billionaires are trying to build rockets to get into space? Perhaps they know something we don't.

    -------------
No, it's your imagination with the help of the news. Extreme weather has always been extreme weather. It hasn't been until just recently that you heard about all the extreme weather over the entire world. Do you think the Western states heard about the time in 2007-08 when Falls Lake (water supply for Raleigh) was at it's lowest level in history and the town was running out of water and all the green things were dying? I really doubt it.

However, now we hear about their drought and water problems most of which are driven by poor usage. I remember reading in May how bad things were getting and that the government announced they would put in water restrictions in August. Say what? Back in April, Las Vegas saw the handwriting on the wall and took the step of banning "non-functional grass" as a result of the drought...starting in 2027.

    ------------
As with all things, the best advice is "follow the money".

Don't forget COVID. The others don't always get us, so Mother Earth has had to be a little more direct.

99.9% of the species that have ever existed on Earth have gone extinct. It's only a matter of time before we have the same fate.

Don't worry Jim, you'll be long dead when it happens.

    (I think)

That's supposed to cheer me up?

But seriously, I do have a nine-year-old grandson and I sorta, kinda, maybe, would like to not leave him a hellscape for a legacy.

I don't have kids. I'm shocked every day that I'm more concerned about the environment than virtually every person I speak with (or observe, speaking with some of them makes my brain hurt).

This is a good time to plug A Perfect Planet, the latest documentary by David Attenborough. It just came out on DVD, and I imagine it's on most streaming services. If for some reason you think you don't have time for the whole thing, just watch chapter 5 titled "Humans".

No, I just take them to NC State sporting events. I'm sure they'd rather I pop their ballons and fart on their ice cream cones.

All this effort isn’t to save the planet. It’s to save mankind. The planet was fine before us and will be fine without us. Heck it will probably be better without us.

True. But we're not the only living organisms. A lot of collateral damage.

Just remember that, despite it all, ours is the safest era ever to be a human (and it's not close).
