I think another related concern is the lack of transfer of information after inauguration should Biden win. I don't think Trump and his cabinet will be bending over backwards to prepare Biden with the latest intel and the like. I recall Obama talking about how he TRIED to make it a smooth transition as much as he could as up front, he says he wanted Trump to do a good job for the good of the country. (And yes, Bush did the same thing for Obama). I don't see Trump and his team exerting much effort in that regard, and there likely would be very little holdover from the administration, so they're starting with a blank slate. Hopefully, Obama's intel from 4 years ago+ is still around a bit...

I think the transition of power in a peaceful manner is part of the "typical" U.S. way, but also the transfer of knowledge is perhaps equally (or more) important to give the new administration everything they need to do their job successfully from day 1.

I think the Clinton’s were the only ones that didn’t go the extra mile in the transition. Not only did they leave the offices trashy they removed the W key from the computer keyboards. Just little petty stuff but not on the important issues.

I have never heard anything hinting the Clinton family was involved. It was petty though.

Will Democrats become the socialist party and Republicans that capitalist party? I'm not even sure how that breaks down on all the issues of the day. Needless to say, I think American politics are ripe for a seismic shift that we haven't seen since the battle over desegregation. Trump just may be the first sign of this.

Actually it was different -- in late 1992 GWH Bush and SecDef Cheney started a military action in Somalia after losing the election to Clinton. I'm not sure AZ is really in play. AZ seems to have been flooded with CA transplants. You might be seeing the same effect in WI with Chicagoans.

Well some reasonable probability of its being true. W came in with a flourish - "clean up the White House" - new furniture, complaints about a messy exit - who cares?

Funny thing is, the Clintons and the Bushes became good friends.

Clinton did make a hash of the pardons, the most controversial of which was at the behest of Republicans. Clinton's political mistake was not to make the R advocates for Marc Rich go public before he acted. His substantive mistake was to even consider a Rich pardon.


On Somalia, I'll always believe that the post-election Operation Hope was a booby trap for the new administration. There's more.
