At Highland for the Midnight Summit release party...tasty brew!
Hippie IPA saves the Florida day
Non-holiday beer from last night - Boulevard Brewing Tasting Room Series - Whiskey and Cabernet Cask Imperial Stout. 12.5% and 28 ibus. From their website -"Available exclusively in our 2019 BLVR&D Barrel-Aged mixed six-pack, this beer is a blend of two different imperial stout recipes aged in an arrangement of rye finished cabernet casks, French oak cabernet casks, bourbon barrels, and barrels once containing both cabernet AND bourbon." There is a lot going on here. Complex. Whiskey up front, kind of a berry or jam taste from the Cabernet on the finish. Some booziness from the bourbon, all of which tampers the stout. This definetly got better as it warmed up. Cat. 3 or strong cat. 2 if you're not used to the beer/wine mix. I have another to age a little and revisit. Not as good as the Rye-on-Rye from Boulevard, but another strong and unique offering.
Shopping for beer in December is a financial hazard.
I chose the wrong store for Belgian holiday ale singles.
However, I did score a lot of beer I wanted 🤩
First for me:
Dead and Berried
Prairie Artisan Christmas Bomb
A couple other Prairie Artisan singles
Seasonal must haves: 3 Mother Earth Silent Night 2019
and a few that shall remain unidentified ahead of consumption tomorrow.
I had really wanted to get St Bernardus, Scaldis Noel, and one or two other true Belgians for tomorrow; wasn’t meant to be.
Happy holiday consumption! 🍻
Going to a 6-pack white elephant Christmas party this evening. Everyone brings a six pack and places it under the tree then at the end of the night you fill up an empty sixer from the beer under the tree. Usually not too fancy but fairly diverse assembly. I'm bringing Flying Dog's Belgian IPA Raging B*tch. As in, if I have too much Christmas cheer my 8 month pregnant wife (who obviously cannot drink) will likely be a Raging B*tch...
Edited to note that the wife has seen and heartily approves this message. Her exact response was, "Yup."
Only four of fifty, and I did get number one 😁
