Agreed. And as a lawyer (thankfully not a litigator) who represents big bad corporations, I know that neither I nor my clients will ever get leeway.
Just noting for those following along at home that courts often find ways to outsized consequences for narrowly missed deadlines.
As a litigator, I can tell you:
You spend three years in law school with professors telling you that it does not matter what is "fair," what matters is whether it is the "law."
Then if you have a trial practice, you spend the rest of your career realizing how false that statement really is when it comes to the real world.
Some deadlines are jurisdictional in nature and if you miss it, there is nothing that can be done. Most, however, can be worked around with sufficient equity and groveling on your side.

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?
Abrams has conceded.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."
She's not conceding.
Stacey Abrams said her speech bowing out of the gubernatorial race was not one of concession. A concession speech would have indicated she agreed with how the election was carried out and its outcome, she said.
Instead, she announced that she was bowing out of the race knowing that the interim Secretary of State was poised to certify election results declaring Brian Kemp the winner. Abrams said she realized there were no more legal options to stop that from happening.

One thing she did not do was concede. She did acknowledge that Kemp will be the next Governor.
"So let's be clear -- this is not a speech of concession, because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper," she said. "As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that. But, my assessment is the law currently allows no further viable remedy. Now, I can certainly bring a new case to keep this one contest alive, but I don't want to hold public office if I need to scheme my way into the post. Because the title of governor isn't nearly as important as our shared title -- voters. And that is why we fight on."
