"1935: Drinking at a football game in college. UNC versus Duke. ... The taste of bourbon (Cream of Kentucky) and the smell of her fuse with the brilliant Carolina fall and the sounds of the crowd and the hit of the linemen in the single synthesis." - Walker Percy, "Bourbon"

Shame on you Reilly for not posting these before me.

Coach Cutcliffe Tuesday press conference:
http://www.goduke.com/mediaPortal/pl...200&id=6296570
1. Joe Giles-Harris is day-to-day. There is no definitive timetable for his return.
2. Talked about the impact of having Ben Humphreys back and feeling healthier along with Quansah, Dimukeje, Tangelo and McDuffie. He specifically singled out McDuffie as having a great practice this morning.
3. Coach talked a lot about Carolina being a talented football team on tape. He praised their kicking game, return specialists and defensive line. He specifically stated this is not "Coach Speak" that he has watched the tape and they are talented.
Lots of info available if you click on the link with those three items standing out to me.
I was hoping for some specific injury updates but knew I wasn't going to get any. It would be nice to get more players healthy and available for Saturday. Brittain Brown and Aaron Young come to mind.

We had several mini-posters of the Carolina Fever one. One of my favorites. I also loved the year that Ramses was found slaughtered, and everyone immediately blamed Duke students. Turned out some guy who was homeless or something simply ate him. Then there were pics of the Devil with meat hanging from his teeth saying, "MMMMMMMM . . . .Ram chops!"
Jim Sumner Tuesday Football Notes:

Cutcliffe says the season is in balance.
“We can’t afford to be up and down. We’ve got to finish this off. November has to be special for us.”

Pitt: UNC beat by 3, Duke lost on road by 9 ... advantage UNC
@Mia: UNC lost by 37, Duke won by 8 ... advantage Duke
VT: UNC lost by 3, Duke lost by 17 ... same result (loss); maybe advantage UNC
UVA: UNC lost on road by 10, Duke lost by 14 ... [wash]
GT: UNC lost by 10, Duke won on road by 14 ... advantage Duke
So, maybe 2 advantage UNC, 2 advantage Duke, 1 wash.
The only grey cloud to beating the cheats is it will likely mean that they finally get rid of Fedora. They might actually luck into a good coach next time. On the plus side, it will cost them a lot of money to admit their Hat sized mistake.
This is a compilation of photos related to the 1939 Duke - Carolina game. Both teams were ranked and Wallace Wade was in charge.

Be sure the sound is on because it adds to impressions of the times.

Err...not to be a downer and ruin all the good fun with the cute title, but the thread might get a bit more traffic if it were obvious to lay-people on the board that this thread refers to the upcoming Duke-unc football game. The rivalry component and the football component are both a bit...opaque as currently presented. I realize one might expect Duke fans to recognize Duke's motto, but I'm not sure that is a realistic expectation (and it certainly won't jump out as a game thread for most anyone who is quickly skimming thread titles for the "interesting" ones). I definitely missed it until now, even though it was presumably on the front page at some point.
