Congratulations COACH K!! You know sometimes I sit around and feel sorry for other teams because they don't know what it's like to have someone as amazing as COACH K. I sometimes think we take him for granted, but he is truly the GREATEST EVER to coach the game. Can't wait for #900.

That would be a POC, a piece of cake, that is. Average 25 wins for four years, and he gets to 903. Four more 25 win years, and he has 1,000 wins. He has been averaging over 29 wins for the last dozen seasons.

    Coach K:

Every moment of the 23 years I've watched you coach has been special... but to see your team come from behind, to watch DeMarcus will those two free throws in at the end, to see Jon put every ounce of strength on his final shot to get it to the rim, and to watch the 4 seconds of defense that kept State from even having a chance... What an honor!

From all Duke students, faculty, and fans everywhere... Congratulations on #800!

One of my favorite physicians, Dr. Michael Debakey, practiced until he was 99.

So ideally Coach K has another 38 years of coaching left in him

Could any other coach in America have guided the current Duke squad to its25-3 and 12-2 record?

Maybe Bobby Knight. I don't think Deano could have. Mike D'Antoni? Not Phil Jackson.

    Talking I'll second all that...

Congrats, K, on the big win. My uncle, Rod Dedeaux, would have loved to have been around to see it. He had a lot of respect for you as a kindred spirit.

News & Observer on 800 wins

Coach K gets his 800th, and the N&O does a feature on "8" losses...and one win.

Four years to 903? 25 wins a year? C'mon, people, don't we all know which coach has the most 33-win seasons?

    Coaching numbers

Here are some coaching victory totals (courtesy of the NCAA record book and some quick addition to the active guys):

    All-time wins (all divisions)
    1. 902 -- Bobby Knight (Army, Indiana, Texas Tech)
    2. 888 -- Don Meyer, Northern State (S.D.), through Sunday, still active
    3. 879 -- Dean Smith (North Carolina)
    4. 877 -- Adolph Rupp (Kentucky)
    5. 853 -- Herb Magee (Philadelphia University), through Sunday, still active
    6. 830 -- Jim Phelan (Mt. St. Mary's)
    7. 828 -- Big House Gaines (Winston-Salem St.)
    8. 821 -- Jerry Johnson (LeMoyne-Owen)
    9. 802 -- Eddie Sutton (San Francisco), through Sunday, still active
    10. 800 -- MIKE KRZYZEWSKI

Don Meyer, who used to be the coach at David Lipscomb in Nashville before it went Division I, could top the 1,100 mark before he's done. He's only 63 and has built Northern State into a Division II power. Magee, 66, is showing no signs of slowing down either.

For those who prefer apples to apples, here are the next 10 active Division I coaches trailing Coach K:

780 -- Lute Olsen, Arizona (not sure how this year's wins work or if he's coming back)
    773 -- Jim Calhoun, UConn
    767 -- Jim Boeheim, Syracuse
610 -- Bob Huggins, West Virginia
    605 -- Tom Penders, Houston
603 -- Gary Williams, Maryland (Terp fans thought it would be 604 tonight)
    590 -- Homer Drew, Valparaiso
    554 -- Ben Braun, California
    551 -- OL' ROY
    549 -- Bo Ryan, Wisconsin
