    complementary

    and complimentary

    are not the same word.

Usually, teams are composed of either star or complementary players.

If the team wins, it often deserves complimentary remarks about their good play.

You can thank my 6th grade teacher, Miss Glesner, for this spelling lesson.

Also... sometimes you don't know what they mean! That's why correct usage is so important! For example, when someone tells me that they perused my website, do they mean that they skimmed it over, which is a common way that people misuse the word, or did they actually peruse the thing?!?!
I'm going to come clean; until reading your post, and then looking up "peruse", I had always thought it meant to read quickly or skim.

    Thanks!

Not so fast. Depending on which dictionary you are using, the preferred definition changes. See this dictionary which has flipped the first preference.

Hey LTE! It's been awhile. How you been doin?

I wanted to get my students something a little better than fun size candy bars for an in-class competition. In classic LTE fashion, I went with poptarts.

Mashed potatoes coming your way. Need to get up with DinK for the lumpy gravy though.

No lumps in the gravy. I prefer a few lumps in the potatoes, however.

Goes without saying. Some tater skins too. (Getting the right blend is the key).

Oh, and butter? Not Paula-Dean quantities but you know it's there.

Leave the sour cream for the fancy pants on the Upper West Side.

Gotta have some sour cream if you are making lumpy/smashed taters. Some cheddar or parmesan cheese, too, please.

No sour cream or cheese if there is gravy. Great if there is no gravy.

I hope no mods come by this thread. Arguments about mashed taters veers perilously close to PPB material.

    Back in Vegas... again.
I'm making my grandmother's sweet & sour meatballs today. Some of you are aware of their awesomeness. Others are not. Your loss.

However, they do go very well with mashed potatoes, which is how we'd eat them when I was growing up.
