Hmm, good guess. But I don't think Cleese is in that.

How 'bout if I throw in Brian Dennehy to the mix, does that help?

Hmm, not yet. I'll keep thinking.

Back to John Cusack, Richard Dreyfuss, and Keifer Sutherland, nobody got that yet, what if I throw in River Phoenix?

I need a hint on that Dom Deluise, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks adventure too.

It's a mildly unfair challenge...they all played small roles in the film.
Steve Martin, for example, played a waiter.

    Add Danny Glover.

Hmm, I'm thinking Stand By Me with River added, but what part did Cusack play -- one of the rabble rousers?

And the hint for Steve Martin's waiter character -- "Would you like to sniff the bottlecap?"

    Ding, ding.

John Cusack was the dead brother who we only see in flashback.

    I'm a movie-watching wimp. I couldn't get any of these.

Here's an easy one: Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short

Dual purpose post: takes the thread back to the top, and pads my posting stats at the same time. Win-win.

Hmm, is it Top Gun? No, that's not it. Maybe 3 Amigos?

The Muppet Movie? That's the only one I can think of with Steve Martin as a waiter but I don't remember it very well.

I can't believe I can't get Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Jeff Goldblum yet.

But, here's a few more for the rest of you.

John Cusack, Tim Robbins, Anthony Edwards

David Duchovny, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin

Liam Neeson, Debra Winger, Steve Martin

Ian Holm, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal

DING DING DING! His waiter appearance in that film is priceless.
As I said, my challenge was mildly unfair, because all three appearances were really just cameos.

Nah, that's how you play it.

Back to Kevin Kline, Jeff Goldblum, John Cleese.

    Hmmm, Grand Canyon?

That's right! Everyone knows it's Top Gun. Martin, Chase, and Short playing volleyball. Best. scene. ever.

Too bad. That means you won't be able to post any more, and I'll be able to pass you. BWAHAHAHAHA

And, yes, the actual answer was "The 3 Amigos." I was brain-dead from studying for finals the first time I saw it and thought it was hilarious. The second time I saw it (awake and well-rested) I thought it was extremely stupid.

    One funny exchange:
"Would you like to kiss me on the veranda?"
    "No, the lips will do."

I haven't seen it. Nor have I seen the Blues Brothers or any of the Godfather movies. I'm a bad person.

Sorry I can't help your "EVIL plan," but movie trivia doesn't register all that much in my brain.

If that makes you a bad person, then I'm in the club as well. I have also not seen The Blues Brothers or any of the Godfather movies.

Well, you have at least seen the Austin Powers movies! (Another set of movies that falls into the category of funny or stupid, depending upon state of mind when viewing.) I have a pretty good mad scientist laugh, so I guess Dr. Evil works on some level. Many of my former students would probably agree.

Okay, I'll say it. You're both bad people.

Ah yes ... the evil laugh, shortly before an exam.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Nah ... I've never done it!
