I can remember multiple times in childhood when I got together with the kids from 3-4 other families who lived on our street and we "put on a show" in somebody's driveway or backyard. All the parents would come and watch us. Did anybody else do this as kids? (My kids have never done this.)

Yes but using quotes around "put on a show" gave it a creepy vibe. It's not your fault, I think quotations marks were just ruined by my generation.
It really is. Using quotes to denote snark or filth was very big when I was growing up and now I'm programmed to think it is someone's intent when they use them.
