Ah so. Yes, that place seems to have been leveled by Dorian. It is completely gone now.

Had a bottle of wine with the woman who rents out the place where we stay. She regaled us with horror stories of riding out the storm and the aftermath that followed.

I felt like I had a rough last year, but it clearly pales in comparison to what folks here have been through.
ah, too bad...I got marooned on Ocracoke once (nothing like the Dorian situation), it didn't take much...gotta wonder how long the OBs can stay semi intact...

How bad is it? I imagine a lot of those little houses around town are gone? Is the Springer Point Trail open?

Springer Point is open! Was our first stop. We picked up some trash (masks :-/ ) and took a little walk. Signs indicate that the preserve is actually expanding next year.

Some houses are gone. Several are in the process of being lifted - fascinating to see. The woman we rent from says it cost her $96k to lift her house.

Awesome! Not about having to pick up someone's discarded mask - that @#$%^!es me off to no end.

BUT, I love standing on the beach at Springer's Point, imagining Blackbeard's ship anchored nearby, the pirates coming ashore there to restock their fresh water supplies. How cool is that?!?

There was an episode of The Gong Show where every contestant sang that song.

Today’s moment of self-awareness: I would have been a pretty bad stevedore.

what a job. Years ago I watched some stevedores try to find a friend's belongings, shipped to Montreal from Russia, under multiple tons of Egyptian cotton. Ugly.

Easy to see why containerized shipping has largely taken over the world...

Not me! In fact I firmly believe I would have made an excellent Commander of the Stevedores. Mirrored sunglasses and a whistle and a bullhorn and I would have killed it.
Nothing incites bodily violence quicker than a Duke fan turning in your direction and saying 'scoreboard.'

You commanding any group would win the award. You were born to command. All hail, Queen Weezie!

I still need you to come crack a whip over me so I clean out my basement.

oh pshaw. I'll admit, I'm my own biggest fan. But I sure wish I could come help with your basement. You'd hate me in about an hour but I'd have a blast.
