Played my first on-line H.O.R.S.E. mixed poker sit-n-go single table in a few years tonight (play money). Forgot how much I like some of those games. (Won, FWIW).
I missed my random spring trip; my summer family vacation; my random weekend summer beach trip; and will not be going to Vegas this fall. Damn I’m getting itchy.
Can’t wait to play live poker again, just sitting around having fun with friends in close proximity.
Indeed. And I like HORSE because it is five games, not NLH which is my usual. Makes you stretch.
When tailgating finally returns, we will need to get a DBR fun game. I’m sure there are others who would play. (I assume JasonEvans plays from his avatar for example, although not sure he makes it up to games. I’m guessing there are others). And beer of course; cigars optional.
Do you play on-line? I play on PokerStars and have played on Pokerface. All play money, of course, here in Georgia.
I miss getting together with my knitting group. We've been meeting roughly once a month for 25 years. We've done a few Zooms but haven't for a couple of months. Summer is often a down time for us. (See previous post about it being too hot to knit.)
Have I posted this before? Does anybody really care if I have?
I counted up all the Shakespeare plays I have seen live:
Cymbelline, As You Like It, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Love's Labors Lost, Henry IV Pt. 1, Henry IV Pt. 2, Henry V, Julius Caesar, Troilus and Cressida, Antony and Cleopatra, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of Venice, 12th Night, The Winter's Tale, The Tempest, Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew, and Much Ado About Nothing. That's 22.
I have also performed in Othello and Pericles, which I count has having seen them live, even if I was acting in them, I still saw them. That makes 24.
Who has me beat?
Othello is the weird one - I had never seen a live performance of it before I acted in it. Film versions, sure, but I'm only counting live performances. Prior to acting in it, it was the only play that I'd seen on film but not live.
The earliest bit of film of a Shakespeare play is the death scene from King John.
I saw it in the special Magna Carta exhibit at the British Library when I traveled there with the family (minus T-Bone who was at TIP) in Summer 2015.

Homemade pizzas and a lovely evening of forgetting the world on the deck with one of my oldest friends and her wonderful partner.
Cooked on a grill? Charcoal or gas?
HORSE is so legit.
I used to play once a week 2001 to 2007-ish in a live game with some guys who knew my bs and I knew theirs. They were better than me, and I learned a lot (meaning by now I've forgotten it all). Thankfully it was low stakes - $10 buy-in. I'd gladly pay again whatever I lost in that game for the great times had over some good drinks. I had my first Bell's 2 hearted and Old Chub in that game right after they were released.
But we never could get that game together unless we played NLH Cash or tourney. People were scared to play for money in a game they didn't know how to play (except NLH). I've played Omaha and Stud a handful of times, and they were fun (I had no clue what I was doing on strategy and still don't). I did ok with stud, but against weak players. I think I've played maybe 2 hands of Razz in my life and it was weird.
After starting med school, I've played probably less than once a year, usually in Vegas. This year's trip in May obviously got cancelled, and I may not get back for a while.
I don't think I'd ever played online until the pandemic when our family did it a couple times, free play money on PokerStars. I've largely avoided online poker, as the joy for me has usually been the social experience and camaraderie.
I'd love to play at a tailgate.
Philly dodged it. Some flooding, no power outages for us. It was trash day so a few recycle bins got washed down the street. Put a motor on those bad boys. More seriously, we got word that Holden Beach is closed except for property owners, all rentals on hold until further notice. Start working on Plan B alternate in case we have to reschedule Turkapalooza. Saw a TV clip from Oak Island, and some pix from Ocean Isle, but not much of anything from Holden. Fingers crossed!!
The Orleans in Vegas is an off-the-strip, sorta rundown local casino. (“Sorta rundown” is being kind although they have a great oyster bar/restaurant). But they are the only ones that spread really odd games — like Omaha H/L limit and stud. On Sunday nights, they have a HORSE tourney for about $100-$125 buy-in. Lots of fun.
Last time I played, the guy to my buddy’s right was Dutch Boyd — winner of three WSOP bracelets. Good luck with that.
Last time I played at the WSOP (not the Main Event) I ended up sitting next to Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and Jean-Robert Bellande at the bar eating dinner. Nice dudes, even though most hate Ferguson after his role in the Full Tilt Poker fiasco. I don’t play for money on-line so no skin off my apple, but — it’s palpable.
1.75 inches of rain, 50 mph gusts, no downed trees, all is well.
Anyone else finding yeast hard to obtain? Lots of Covid baking going on...
