The internet has taken a massive dump all across campus, which in the last week of regular classes is less than ideal.

Thanks all! And concur, celebrations are in order.

He graduated in 2017 with a BArch - which is a five year advanced degree which sort of eliminates the need/benefit to pursuing a Masters. Since college, he's been with the DC office of a global firm and has worked mostly on hospitals, an atrium for a mass transit hub, and some commercial buildings.

The ARE is series of 6 compulsory exams that customarily take 3-7 years to finish and, once passed, allow you to apply for a license. You also drop the "apprentice" label. His last two years have been akin to pursuing a night school degree while holding down a full-time job. He is immensely relieved and excited -and we are thrilled for him.

Interesting...had many German colleagues, good guys, hard workers, but the adjective "cheery" would rarely be used to describe them...is there an early Oktoberfest going on?

Asheville is having one of those "gas panic" self-fulfilling prophecies again. Ugh.
Bumping my own comment. People are lined up 30 deep at a gas station at the bottom of my street causing traffic issues.

    I hate people sometimes.

I confess to going out to fill the car as soon as I heard the Colonial hack.

We in Asheville love to panic. If people continued their usual habits, everything would be fine.

I should loan you mine. People still pretty good about masking here in Durham.

I trust that people are loading up on bread and milk as well...you can't be too careful!

In my travels I find that virtually all cities have just Stellar masking. For some reason airports do not count as cities regardless of location. People don't wear them, or don't wear them correctly. I did listen to a fantastic fivethirtyeight podcast where they basically said if you have been vaccinated then being around morons for a few minutes at a time isn't going to hurt you. I'm not afraid of getting the deathly version or even long covid after having been vaccinated, but it would screw with my schedule and I'm already busy as a mug. Plus I would prefer not to kill people if I pass it along.

Oh man. I got a batch of the good stuff. Homemade hot Indian chutney with peppers this guy has been breeding for decades for heat.
