I take my chances
I take my chances ev'ry chance I get

She's really underrated. I remember how much my mother loved the song 'He Thinks He'll Keep Her' back in the day, and then one time I heard it again as an adult for the first time in many years, and it hit me like a ton of bricks just why that song spoke to her. There were tears. Now I will listen along (and cry again) if it ever plays by chance, but I don't go looking for it.
The song that does this to me is "The Green of His Eyes" by Mike Cross. I once had to actually pull my car over when I let my music random shuffle-play that one. There was just suddenly too much dust in the air to see the road. It's certainly more overtly sentimental than "He Thinks He'll Keep Her", but it gets me every time.

For me it is Patty Loveless and How Can I Help You Say Goodbye. It came out while my mom was going through chemo/radiation and I moved a lot as a kid. It makes the room very dusty.
I just wanted you to know by Mark Chestnutt
I lose it to "Puff the Magic Dragon".
Surprised no one has said Chumbuwumba’s Tubthumping.
There are some songs that really take me back to time and place and trigger the associated emotions. It really is like having a soundtrack to your life at times.
a Duke friend of mine can tell you precisely what season of what year a song came out just by listening and then recalling where he was in school then (sixties primarily).
Mine is relatively simple. Taps. I heard it nearly every day growing up as an Army brat when we had housing on post. Now, knowing some of the soldiers I served with made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, the full meaning really hits home.
