    Flour

Homemade pretzels (first attempt) and brats for dinner. Glad I went to the gym and walked about 5 miles on this beautiful day. . . .

I went through a whole bag of baking flour and half a jar of active dry yeast since new year’s day. Not sure if I should be proud or concerned. But never really used these ingredients before so it has been fun.

In the absence of helpful suggestions, we ended up at Wrightsville Beach today. Tomorrow, headed to the Green Swamp.

Roasted coffee with a friend yesterday.

Pretty straightforward and doesn’t take a ton of time.

Initial results certainly are not local/craft coffee quality.
    Definitely drinkable.

Now mulling over a new hobby.

Soft. I went back and put them under the broiler for a minute or so a side to crisp up the outer crust.

I used this Alton Brown recipe, for no particular reason beyond his general reputation: https://altonbrown.com/homemade-soft-pretzels-recipe/

They were very well-received. And very easy to make.

Should add that I used baking flour instead of all-purpose, which has more gluten and is more chewy. I’ve also seen recipes with some mix of whole wheat flour.

I was waiting for somebody else to either come up with one or change the subject.

Although I suppose I could change the subject myself.

    I have rehearsal on Sunday.

Which is a good excuse to not watch the Super Bowl although I will probably be home in time for the second half. Perhaps I'll watch halftime and maybe some of the commercials. I think the Chiefs are in it. Right DinK? If so, because of you, I will be rooting for them.

Which might be just enough of a rooting interest to get me to watch the very end of the game. Even when the Pats are in the Super Bowl, I haven't watched more than the 4th Quarter (plus overtime if it comes to that) in at least 5 years.

I haven't watched an entire NFL game in more than that, close to 10 years now.

Yes, rhe Chiefs are in it. Took 50 years to make it back. The team is fun to watch. They seem to really look like they are having fun together.
