    DBR 2024 Masters Contest

The best Monday of the year is upon us! The Masters is the true marker for the start of both spring and golf's Majors season, and along with it comes the DBR Majors contest and our season long golf pool. For a refresher, here are the rules:

    1. Select a team of as many golfers as the "salary cap" allows. Picks need to be in before the start of play Thursday.
    2. The salary cap is 30 points - use them wisely!
    3. Each player's "cost" against the salary cap is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Scottie Scheffler "costs" 11, Rory 7, Rahm 6, etc.*
    4. Anyone whose OWGR points is less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
    5. You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
    6. Your final score is based on the total money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get $0 for that player.
    7. As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).

*As in past years, it's hard to figure out how to treat the LIV players. I guess I could convert the entire structure to datagolf or some other ranking system, but it seems like to much disruption to solve Joaquin Neimann potentially being undervalued by 2 points. So I'm letting it ride and everyone is free to make their own assessment of LIV players' value. (Note, the asterisk used here is dedicated to Talor Gooch)

In many ways this year feels very similar to last year: Scheffler is on a heater coming in, Rory is still on his career grand slam quest, the LIV vs PGA tension is still present, as is Tiger's battle against Father Time.

In the DBR world, 91devil hosted a delicious champions dinner for Utley, CDu, Bob Green, dudog84, and myself, and we are all looking for our second virtual green jacket.

Always one of the best weeks of the year! 2 orders of Taste of the Masters is scheduled to arrive this week (hope the teenage boys don't devour it all before Sunday) - I can't wait!

    Let the contest begin!

Will be real interesting to see if anyone puts 2 points on Tiger Woods who is going for his 24th consecutive made cut at Augusta National, which would be an absurd record.

It could be you! You double counted Niemann so you have 2 extra points to spend.

Hmmm, would I get double dollar for every buck he makes?

I'm skeptical Tiger can walk 18, let alone 72 over 4 days.

I hope Tiger wins, even if I left him off my team.

Rather than picking Niemann twice, let me drop Cameron "stomach bug" Smith and use his 2 points plus the 2 extra Niemann points to pick up 4 pointer Ludvig Aberg.

    So, my revised picks are:

    Rory - 7
    Rahm - 6
    Aberg - 4
    Matsuyama - 3
    Koepka - 2
    Niemann - 2
    DJ - 2
    Justin Thomas - 2
    DeChambeau - 2
