Duke Kunshan has decided to go with a different mascot than a Blue Devil, a deer.

Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."
Try this link. BTW, while looking for this I came across the fact that their teams are to be called the Trailblazers. Don't know how a deer represents that name but it's probably a Chinese thing.
*wet blanket alert*
I've always had some funny feelings about partnering up with an institution so closely associated with a regime for whom the notion of academic freedom is anathema.
This feels like a cash grab along the same lines as the NBA watering down its stances on human rights, or Hollywood backing down and altering content, to appease a giant market.
I don't like it.
I think if Duke could go back in time, they wouldn't do it. But they thought they were being pioneering at the time, and too much time/money has been spent already to backtrack. It seemed like the vision was a fairly broad equivalent university, but it has become more niche.
More importantly — is their football coach on the rumored short list for Texas A&M too?
