My recollection is that this conversation was happening in a Few Quad dorm room as early as 2004.

My observations from the first quarter of Knicks-Celtics:

    1. I love how RJ doesn’t give a hoot and just wants to take it to the hoop no matter what
    2. Porzingis is a poor-man’s Wembanyama
    3. Jayson Tatum is good.

JJ sitting midcourt, feet on wood. That must be his son Knox and I also see his production partner, Tommy Alter.

Zion had a relatively quiet first half against Memphis with 7-1-2. His two buckets were both slams near the end of the 2nd quarter.
Ingram was more active with 11-4-3.

It must not have been JJ cause he’s in SA.

Is Tre hurt or just no longer starting?

I feel bad for Jayson. While I think the starting line-up for the Celtics is better, the bench is much worse and I can see more pressure on Tatum to play more/score more while in the game. And how much more can he score considering he averaged 30 ppl last year?

Lively, Seth and Kyrie on ESPN vs the Spurs and Tre Jones in Wembanyana's NBA debut. I know it's much too early to tell anything from their first pro games, but I would love to see Lively have a good outing guarding Wemby, because if he can do so it would prove very valuable for the future.

I’m not sure Lively will guard him much since he plays Center and Wemby is more of a SF.

Lively with the putback dunk for his first points!

Lively looks like he fits in his role and gets a Duke-like put-back jam for his first NBA basket.

In non-Duke news: Wemby is gonna be a problem for the league.

Also it is funny that JJ has already corrected Richard Jefferson twice on the broadcast. Awkward…

Announcers are praising Lively. What a perfect fit for him going to the Mavs.

Lively II is going ham on the Spurs.

Lively II is thriving in the paint. He is really going to benefit from playing alongside Luka and Kyrie.

Lively II with a spectacular putback dunk. Wemby coming on strong in the 4th with a lob layup, 3, a "fast" break dunk and a baseline jumper... all with 5 fouls.

Lively II was the perfect draft pick for the Mavs. Fun game to watch.

    Lively with a great debut

Lively, the No. 12 overall pick, scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Wembanyama scored 15 points and had five rebounds, with nine of his points coming in the fourth quarter.

Lively was phenomenal for a rookie debut. His positivity and energy were great. The NBA offers so much more space for him to move freely and play above the rim. Wemb dribbles and pulls up a three on Lively. But Lively don’t care. He comes down tips out a rebound at the top of the key and circles back — not stopping — and makes a mega dunk put back in the lane. He’s the Energizer Bunny. Mavs got a steal in the draft. Super happy for him!

    Lively's stat line (30 min): 16 pts (7-8 FG, 2-3 FT), 10 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl

He should be credited with a second steal for drawing attention away from Victor Wembanyama's debut. His highlights:

I watched the whole game. Lively seemed so ready for this moment, and so unflappable, whether he collided with someone, or missed a pass, or was called for a foul. For someone who was never directly taught by Coach K, he embodied "next play" better than anyone I've seen in years.

It's a long season, and the 82-game grind will wear down any rookie. But I'll enjoy his exuberance for as long as it lasts.
