Well duke scores anyway! Torres and Davidson hits make it 2-0 Duke

Jala in for Curd in the fifth. I am….confused but commentator claimed Curd was on an innings restriction.

1-2-3 inning for Wright. 2-0 duke to start the 6th, where a 1 out HBP of Frelick chases Spencer.

Clemson has a runner on second for the first time today with one out in the sixth against Jala uh oh

  5. #825
2-1 Clemson singles to left, Davidson throws a strike to home but the runner seems to get her hand in before Torres gets the tag down. Close play, I thought she was out but Torres may have missed the tag

Jala gets out of it. 2-1 duke with 3 outs to go. Maybe we can get some insurance first

  7. #827
5-1! Capped off by another Claire Davidson double!

  8. #828
6-1 by the time the inning is over. Jala now just needs 3 outs

Duke drops to 3 in the softball America poll behind Texas (1) and Oklahoma (2). little surprise there

Duke up to 4 in the RPI despite the Campbell loss (adding Clemson’s record in three times probably was a big help). Will be interesting to see how our seed is affected in SA’s projected bracket on Wednesday- other teams losing may actually have us up in seeds despite that bad loss

(Honest question, I do not know anything about RPI) Does RPI take into account the fact that those three wins were at the other team's venue?

It does not - RPI is solely your team record, your opponent’s record (weighted twice as much as the two other factors), and your opponents’ opponent’s records. This is why RPI was so derided and removed from basketball use - it doesnt account for home/away, doesn’t account for run differential, and mostly accounts for your strength of schedule.

So the jump for duke is largely the fact that Duke played Clemson three times and Clemson has a strong record and strong schedule.

Sometimes an inexplicable loss can be a net positive if it serves to wake the team up. Long winning streaks can be a burden and such a loss can relieve the pressure and be the start of a new streak. The pendulum of momentum must swing in both directions.

Wednesday's double header vs UNC-G is now only a single game at 5, ESPN+
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

This is the second change of schedule for the next two weeks - we also dropped a game with NC Central that was supposed to be part of a double header (with game 2 against Longwood) and added a game against Gardner Webb next week.

I’m curious if there’s some deliberate attempts at limiting games vs bad RPI opponents here (central is terrible, UNCG is about the same as Campbell) and also limiting double headers to make it easier to manage the schedule. Cuz it doesn’t look like rain is expected wed

Speaking of RPI right now, while the ACC will add a couple of strong programs next year, adding Texas and Oklahoma is going to make the SEC rankings even crazier. Poor Ole Miss is dragging along at 49.
