    Duke Softball 2024

Duke's Class of '23 recruits are Amiah Burgess (Outfield, #43) and Madeline Le (Infield).

Young Inks Two to 2023 Signing Class

The class is small in size but very talented nonetheless.

This adds to the last two recruiting classes that were each Top 10:

Duke Softball continues to excel and we look forward to another great year in 2024! Let's Go Duke!!

It’s so interesting to read those scouting reports for the players before they made it to duke. Curd was listed as a two way player but didn’t try hitting at all last year (wonder if they let her try next year?) while Sophie was higher ranked….but Young even then projected her for the bullpen.

Very scary day for Coach Young.

Very concerning news in the softball world as James Lamar, the head of the Lady Dukes organization is on life support after undergoing emergency heart surgery last night.

Coach Lamar’s wife, Marissa Young–the Duke University head coach–issued a statement via Twitter this morning emphasizing the seriousness of the situation:

"I am trying hard not to ask why or how this would happen to someone who gives & cares so much for others! James had emergency heart surgery last night & is on life support fighting for his life! We know that he is in God’s hands and pray for recovery! @ladydukes16u @DukesNat_14u"

That's promising. Hopefully the surgery goes well today.

The latest update is not as promising, unfortunately:

Update: 💔 his body didn’t respond to yesterday’s surgery, so he will have to have another open ❤️ surgery today. We continue 2 trust God’s plan & healing ability!
What a horrible horrible situation -- obviously, still hoping for the best.

Update: Despite the setbacks we have encountered, James continues to show fight. We continue to get signs of hope & feel comforted by God’s on our beloved James. Surgery went as expected now just the waiting game to see how his body responds!

Update: After 4 surgeries in 4 days, life support & dialysis, James has remained stable today! He shows his fight when awaken for his daily neuro-checks. Today is all about rest & recovery in preparation for his next surgery on Sunday! 🙏🏼 Your prayers are felt!

So FSU made the WCWS finals for a rematch of the 2021 title series against Oklahoma. I do think they have a shot.

Meanwhile for the second straight year duke’s super regional opponent made the WCWS regional final before losing to Oklahoma. Maybe we can earn an easier super regional opponent next year?

I've no love for the Noles, but it would be great to see Oklahoma not 3peat.

Duke Softball is off to a good start in the Fall schedule, winning all 3 games convincingly thus far.
    https://goduke.com/news/2023/10/1/so...g-weekend.aspx

This year's team returns most of the position players and all the pitching from last year. Gone are Deja Davis and Kamryn Jackson, but they are replaced by talented Freshmen Aminah Burgess and Linh Le. Five returning players hit over .300 last year including Jennings, Vega, Tapia, Davidson and Gold. For pitchers, Freshman phenom Cassidy Curd, Jala Wright and Lillie Walker all return along with transfer Dani Drogemuller for good measure. It should be another exciting season for the Blue Devils!!

Nice to see Jala have a good start here, she struggled near the end of the season last year.

Final two games of the fall season this weekend. Duke started it off with its most interesting challenge: Tennessee, who they shutout 1-0 in I think 8 innings. We conclude with NC A&T today

Duke pitching has been almost flawless this fall, which bodes really well for the spring

Duke Softball completed their 8-game fall schedule today with an 11-2 win over North Carolina A&T. They won all eight games by a combined score of 76-8. This included a 1-0 win over Tennessee who finished #3 in last years final coaches poll (Duke was #10). There aren't any boxscores or stats but there are recaps of each game at https://goduke.com/sports/softball/schedule.

My wife (maybe the biggest Duke Softball fan in the world) and I strongly considered going to the tournament in Puerto Vallarta in February. I called the Duke ticket office Wednesday, and they told me that I had to buy tickets through the venue. We likely aren't going. We're planning a big family vacation in the summer so taking a small vacation isn't really in the cards.
