Just discovered this thread, how fun. Would be more fun if we had some MAGA posters...
I imagine it's been discussed but what are folks' thoughts on Biden running for a 2nd term? Polls show that a majority of Dem voters want someone else. I'm firmly in that camp...

It's a LOWERCASE 'k' and you must have the 97 attached to it. You may use PM97 as that is an accepted diminutive form of my username.
Gotcha. So, ding Trump for the difference in budget deficit from Obama's last budget projection and the actual deficit? Sure...no problem there. Trump was never a fiscal conservative. I'm not even sure there is a place for fiscal conservatives in either party right now.
This gets into something politically that is very advantageous for Republicans. Democrats like spending. Now they don't always like spending in ways that Republican administrations spend, but they can't figure out exactly how to pop the Republicans over this spending in a way that Republicans can't counter.
The huge Trump tax cuts never had a chance to lower the deficit. There was no possibility that we were going to experience 5% growth, which is what it would have taken to offset the forfeited revenues from the tax cuts. But this is such a winning strategy for Republicans and is one of the reasons voters trust Republicans more than they trust Democrats on the economy. Democrats just can't elucidate a very good argument beyond "trickle down economics doesn't work". And trickle down economics doesn't work, but Democrats have never been able to explain how and why. It just ends up sounding like Republicans like to cut taxes and Democrats like to raise them.
The media plays a big role in this. Americans think that Republicans are better with the economy than Democrats because that's what the American public constantly hears. And this is a real failure of the Democratic party. In my voting lifetime they have never been able to counter that narrative. Despite having lots of counters. They just can never find footing on the issue.
