    Degenerate Gamblers - 2023 PGA

Ok, I'm officially a maladaptive dinosaur. It's been 4 years since the PGA Championship moved from August to May, and on paper it makes so much sense - one major each month after the Masters in April, hold the event at a time of year when more potential venues have better weather, don't have the end of the golf season compete with the NFL - yet I still can't get used to it. Before I go outside and yell at some clouds, here are the rules of our contest yet again:

    1. Select a team of as many golfers as the "salary cap" allows. Picks need to be in before the start of play Thursday.
    2. The salary cap is 30 points - use them wisely!
    3. Each player's "cost" against the salary cap is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Rahm "costs" 10, Scheffler cost 10, Rory costs 8, etc.
    4. Anyone whose OWGR points is less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
    5. You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
    6. Your final score is based on the total money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get $0 for that player.
    7. As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).

Last year was a PGA/LIV showdown for the Wanamaker Trophy between JT and Mito, we just didn't know it at the time. We should be so lucky this year, as PGA vs LIV will likely again dominate the conversation. Other stories to watch will be the super-nova hot Jon Rahm, winner of 6 out of his last 14 events, going for his 3rd Major; the Rory roller coaster - he was #1 in the world as recently as Feb with 4 wins and 8 top tens in the preceding 12 months/15 events (including top 10s in all 4 majors), but then missed the cut in 2 of his last 4 events; feel good story Jason Day who has shot up over 100 points in the OWGR in the past year; and the potential return of "Majors Brooks"

Looking forward to a fun week (even if it doesn't feel like a Major week to me)

Thanks mkirsh! Another fun week is in store!

For anyone who was contemplating taking John Daly onto their team, don’t. The 1991 PGA Championship winner is 57 and has withdrawn from the 2023 PGA Championship.

I’m not sure how much professional golf Big John has left in him.
