‘Turn it up’
Great band. RIP.
I am saddened to learn of the death of Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington. The guitar riff in Freebird is probably one of the most famous guitar solos in the history of rock music. He was the last surviving member of the original band.
I had the pleasure of seeing them once in the mid-90s (obviously not the full original band). They reached the encore and I was thinking "I feel like there is one song I haven't heard." Curtain opens and I hear the opening guitar solo of Freebird, the crowd goes nuts and I very quickly remembered.

Showtime has a good documentary “If I Leave Here Tomorrow” I saw a couple of years ago.

Favorite tune by Rossington Collins Band. I haven’t checked the liner notes but sounds like they are blending a Resonator and a Mandolin at one point.
RIP. Sad that they are all gone now.
I remember cranking Sweet Home Alabama so loudly on the training driver course when I was taking Driver's Ed that I could hardly hear the teacher's instructions. Good times.
My first favorite band as a kid. Saw them just a couple of days before the crash. In Free Bird, I'm pretty sure they have three guitarists going, including Rossington and Steve Gaines and the great Ed King. Not sure who played the iconic solo though. Was it Rossington?
