You're right -- my son told me that Spencer Hubbard (5'8"?) dunked in warm-ups last night.

Well, "every D1" player including walk-ons is A LOT of people. I'd bet a lot of money that there's one who can't dunk. In fact, there are ELITE NBA players who can't dunk really:

    Jameer Nelson:
As the former Saint Joseph’s standout says in the video, “I dunked one time, but I’m not a crowd pleaser.”
UNCheat's Kendall Marshall never dunked at UNC and hasn't in the NBA.

Steve Nash never dunked in his NBA career nor in college.

Steve Blake, Jamaal Tinsley, and Luke Ridnour are others apparently.

Do you think Connor Williams can dunk?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIor...=PSCHighlights
I don't post this to denigrate, the video above went viral for his effort and he's apparently known as a great teammate and human being. And he apparently has appreciated the attention largely.

Ah ha - so Kendall Marshall and I have something in common!

Correct. I saw Hubbard trying to dunk last night and just missing, turned my head to talk to someone, and then saw the team going crazy and celebrating him, so I assume he succeeded. Very impressive.

Earlier in this thread I believe someone posted video proof of Young dunking multiple times at Northwestern. So he has definitely done it.

Young explained that a Dunk is worth two points and Mark missed a dunk- so why dunk when a layup is more reliable.

There is a difference between "incapable of dunking" and "never dunked in a game." Whether or not they do so in a game is a different matter.

Kendall Marshall, for example, never dunked in college or the NBA, but did in high school: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWHpCPlgP30
    Same for Ridnour: https://www.oregonlive.com/nba/2015/...idnour_is.html
Steve Nash definitely COULD dunk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmL3G0LW-Do (yes he barely dunks in this video, but he does so with minimal effort)

So "can he dunk?" is a pretty low bar. "Can he dunk against college (or pro) competition?" is a much more difficult bar.

For what it's worth, I posted earlier in the thread that a safe assumption is that any D1 player 6'4" or taller can dunk, and that most of the D1 guys 6'2" or taller can dunk. There may be some stray recruited D1 players 6'0" or under that can't dunk.

Worth noting that Williams isn't a D1 player. Nor is he a D2 player.

Well, kinda. He got the ball over the front rim, it rattled around, popped up, and then fell through the hoop. His teammates were counting it, of course, but it was pretty borderline.

Young may not be entering any dunk contests anytime soon, but his two massive blocks against Louisville got me out of my seat quicker than any dunk that night. I absolutely love his old man game!

In the post-game locker room video, Mark Mitchell asked Ryan Young about those blocks and Young deadpanned that he and Lively are both extremely athletic, so teams have to watch out for that. It was a few seconds after that that Proctor asked when Young was going to dunk in a game.

That's a yes. Not a resounding one. But a yes nonetheless.

The thread just needs to be repurposed: Can Ryan Young win a dunk contest?

Good news: It's a YMCA dunk contest.

Bad news: Vince Carter is somehow also participating.

Good news: Vince Carter has to carry Kenny Smith on his back at all times.

Is Kenny providing the commentary on the dunk contest while riding on Vince Carter?
