They're 2-7 on three's but some of those misses have been bad. I think they're just not confident in any shots today. Let's hope they snap out of it in the second half.

It was tied at 22 but FSU scored the last 8 points. With continued good defense, Duke can make that up if they even hit 40% of their shots.

Duke has forced 10 turnovers and held FSU to 33.3% shooting with no 3's.

Good defensive presence but not a very good shot maker from inside. Probably the biggest issue with this Duke team is that lack of a consistent inside scorer. Right now they could take any type of scorer. Day Wilson and Taylor have produced little and they are Duke's best players on O.

    One of those days.

It’s tough to watch. She can’t seem to make a simple shot yet continues to shoot every time she gets the ball.

Through 3 quarters, starters are 4-34 with 10 turnovers. But if ND and uNC lose it will still be a good day.

Defense is important, but if you can't make baskets Duke loses. Rushing and never planting their feet before shooting is a real issue for Duke today. Turnovers are another big problem for Duke. Heading for their third loss is very likely.

I wonder if Coach Lawson will blister the paint off the walls after the game? She can't be happy with the team's play today.

    GoDuke!

The cheer in the crowd. DUKE CAN'T SHOOT. Have to agree.

Very bad game by Duke. All the offensive weaknesses showed themselves today.

Between FGs and FTs, Duke missed 60 shots. Yikes.

Duke made a few shots near the end to make it ONLY a 13-point loss.
Maybe they started off tight and lost confidence and tried to force it.
Nonetheless 26.4% shooting with 18 turnovers is concerning.
Duke presses after made shots, so all the missed shots negated some of the pressure, although FSU still had 17 turnovers.
FSU shot much better in the second half and that was the big difference.

ND loses, so we're still tied for 1st.

P.S. OTOH, bad news, only 1 of FSU's final 7 games is against a top-half ACC team. We only have a 1-game lead on them in the loss column and obviously lose the tie-breaker.

Shooting numbers for our starters. (The bench was dismal too, FWIW)

    Balogun 2-9

Brown 1-11 (Seriously, stop shooting. Those attempts all equate to rebounds, which is a battle FSU won today.)

    Richardson 2-10

Day - Wilson 5-9. (Everybody stand up and cheer.)

    Taylor 1-9

PeeeeeEwwww. Besides Shy, the only other player in "positive" territory was de Jesus with 3-5.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

We beat #12 VT at home, and lost to #24 (unranked in coaches) FSU on the road.

But the NET has VT at #23 and FSU at #15.

Gee, maybe the NET knows something about basketball that the idiot pollsters (and especially coaches) don't.

    BTW, Duke is #8 NET.

Disappointed with today's result, but I'm still ecstatic about this team. Next play.

We lost this game physically. All the Brown shots people are complaining about were caused by very physical play down low. Every single shot our post put up was altered by a defender bodying up. FSU didn't use their hands, so they didn't get called for fouls, and we just aren't a team that finishes well through contact. We had the same problem on the perimeter. Our guards were constantly body-defended by very quick-footed FSU defenders who were careful not to use their hands. We tried to pass through the contact, and weren't very successful at it.

Or, to use a Coach K phrase: We were knocked back. In this case, pretty much literally.

And just to be completely clear, I don't think FSU committed a ton of uncalled fouls on those plays. They just made us uncomfortable in ways we could not handle. We absolutely lost the physical battle.

There's no specific mention of FSU's physicality in Coach Lawson's post-game presser. https://goduke.com/watch/?Archive=12501&type=Archive
She praised FSU for their terrific play and stated that Duke was disrupted offensively and was undisciplined defensively. She said all her starters didn't play well and it was a combination of the tough opponent and also her players not performing. She did mention poor 1-on-1 defense, giving up too many free throws and missing a lot of layups.

    A forgettable game, all around.

    OFFENSE

Possessions: 79.4 (FSU likes it fast, and they got it fast; 2nd-fastest game of Duke's season, after eight straight games under 69)
oRtg: 0.72 (horrendous; worst oRating of the season)
eFG%: 29.2% (frighteningly bad; worst eFG of the season, by 8 percentage points)
    3pt%: 30.8% (fair)
2pt%: 25.4% (OMG; worst 2pt% of the season, by 8 percentage points)
    %threes: 18.1% (low; 3rd straight game under 19%)
    FT rate: 30.6% (decent)
    OR%: 35.8% (good)
TO%: 22.7% (probably around average for Duke this season)
a/to: 0.6:1 (ninth game in a row of 1:1 or worse)
    %assisted: 57.9%
fast break pts: 5 (8.8% of points; meh)

    DEFENSE

dRtg: 0.88 (pretty good, against a top offense; 18th game out of 21 under 0.883)
    eFG%: 41.8% (great)
    3pt%: 25.0% (good)
    2pt%: 41.5% (decent)
    %threes: 13.1% (nice and low)
    FT rate: 52.5% (horrible)
    DR%: 65.9% (poor)
TO%: 21.4% (pretty good, considering FSU's season long TO% is around 18%; but it's also our 2nd-lowest forced TO% of the season)
    a/to: 0.53:1 (15th straight game under 0.7:1)
    %assisted: 37.5%
    stl%: 10.1% (good)
    blk%: 20.8% (2pt shots) (fabulous; 2nd straight block rate over 20%, and 7th 20%+ block% of the season)
fast break pts: 9 (12.9% of points; meh)

Crazily enough, our defense was decent. My eye test said otherwise, but I guess that's why we crunch the numbers. We were also decent or better at three of the four offensive factors*. But our two-point shooting was so pathetic, it led to a terrible overall showing. If you give up a 15-0 run (from 22-22 with less than 2 minutes to play in the first half to 37-22, 2.5 minutes into the 3rd quarter), it's pretty hard to win.

    * The overall offensive numbers might be a bit misleading, in the wrong way. The amazing thing about how bad our offense was, is that we scored 23 points in the last 6:05 of the game (17 possessions, so an oRating of 1.35 in the last 6 minutes, with an eFG of 66.7%). Before that hot streak (i.e., the first 62.4 possessions of the game), we were shooting 17.5% from the field (19.3 eFG%), with an alarming oRating of 0.54. Whatever. Next play.
