I am old. Other than the first group, I never heard of them. That said, I couldn't name any of their music. But then you probably don't think much of Frank Sinatra or Patti Page. 🤠😎
Not the music you just like but the music (song, artist, genre, genre period) that narrates the memories of your life.
I'll start for example and so you can all mock me. Earliest memory to SY high school.
1. New Kids On the Block - Hangin' Tough. Literally my earliest musical memory. Aped the video at a 4th grade talent show with several friends. We practiced. SO. HARD. And, honestly, I felt super cool just to be chosen.
2. Ace of Base, All that She Wants - My conservative christian, football-obsessed, semi-rural Texas middle school LOVED this song. That makes me laugh today.
3. Crash Test Dummies, God Shuffled His Feet - My first album. Had to listen to it with my mom and explain to her why I liked it and why she shouldn't be offended.
4. Aerosmith, Crazy song + video - Aside from my mom's Vic Secret catalogues, the earliest burning in my loins.
5. I Swear, John Michael Montgomery - You went to middle school dances in Texas in 1994, this was it.
6. Wallflowers, Bringing Down the House - Listened to it non-stop on a trip to a poor, fly/boat-in only part of Alaska that defined a lot of how I think about the world and inequality.
7. Late-90s pop country - Deanna Carter/Alan Jackson/Dixie Chicks/Tim McGraw - My big HS love loved it, so I loved it, too. Still brings a tear to the eye mood catches me right, TBD.

I am the Sultan of Swing.

Another vote for the accordion dude! He looks so darn happy, and it's hilarious!
This live version from the "Alchemy" album may be my favorite live recording of a song. I also like Mark Knopfler's post-DS work, but I would love to see him rock out with a band like this just once.

The way I read this is music that takes you back to a specific time and place rather than your favorite music. I pretty much just listened to country music until I was probably in college. But most of these were incredibly popular during a specific time period and hearing them takes me back to a specific moment or series of moments.

One of the first songs I ever remember. My parents had an 8-track and loved Anne Murray. It's impossible for me to hear this song and not be transported to that old Buick with bench seats.

This song seemed impossibly subversive to me. Dad coached basketball and I heard this song all the time in like third grade when it came out.

I remember hearing this in 7th grade, the first year I went away to basketball camp by myself. This album would be the very first bit of music I ever spent my own money on.

It's hard to describe just how popular this was at my middle school. The whole entire album was all anyone listened to for about a year and a half it seemed. Now it's up there with Nickelback for music that the most strippers have removed clothes to.

Probably my favorite song during my high school years. I remember my best friend and I singing this after losing in the Elite 8 to the eventual state champions my senior year.

I remember this coming out my freshman year of college and it just sounded so different than anything else I had ever heard. At the time I was mostly listening to country.
Help!, She Loves You, and I Want to Hold Your Hand. Huge hits, and one of my earliest musical memories.
Batman tv theme song. The sound of my third grade or so. We sang it all the time on the playground.
One is the Loneliest Number, by Three Dog Night. First concert I ever attended, maybe fourth or fifth grade.
Temptation Eyes. Favorite of fifth grade.
Sugar, Sugar. Silly song that reminds me of maybe sixth grade?
Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree. 7th or 8th grade. Ubiquitous.
Run, Run, Run by JoJo Gun. Signs.
LaGrange, by ZZ Top. My high school years.
The album Meat is Murder by the Smiths, along with Faith and 17 Seconds by The Cure were the soundtrack of my college years.
Radio Free Europe, in fact the entire Murmur album;the soundtrack of my medical school, along with Beds are Burning by Midnight Oil.
Sober by Tool, the soundtrack of my first years out of residency.
The entire Nevermind album by Nirvana along with Soundgarden's first album was the soundtrack of my early marriage.
Hey, Man, Nice Shot by Filter, the song of my fellowship.
I will stop there. Favorite band of all time is The Smiths.
