    Kirstie Alley (1951-2022)

Variety: Kirstie Alley, ‘Cheers’ and ‘Look Who’s Talking’ Star, Dies at 71

Alley’s death was confirmed through her official social media presence, which shared a statement from her children.

“To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” reads the statement. “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

Loved her in the role of Lt. Saavik in what I believe still is the best Star Trek film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

Also loved her in Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Great range. Thanks for the memories.
Hard at work making beautiful things.

My primary memories of Kirstie Alley are:
-Rebecca on Cheers, where she, along with Woody Harrelson and Kelsey Grammer, really carved out an important role in an already legendary show and helped it have an excellent second act
-As the comely teacher opposite Mark Harmon in "Summer School"
-Her prominence as a Scientology adherent
-When she won an Emmy and, speaking of her then husband the actor Parker Stevenson, said the memorable, “I'd like to thank my husband, Parker, the man who has given me the big one for the last eight years.”

    Gone too soon.

Forgot about that one. Great, fluff piece of a movie. Thoroughly enjoyable and the kind you get stuck on when you come across it on late night TV.
