Did I forget anyone? Spotrac lists 29 Duke players in the NBA, the 28 above and a currently inactive Rodney Hood, most recently with the Clippers. (I learned 2 things via Twitter: he's still an unsigned free agent, and he grew up with Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore.)

I didn't see any recent transactions that put Javin DeLaurier or DJ Steward on an NBA training camp roster.

DJ signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Sacramento (same kind of deal as Marques Bolden). He is likely to spend a little bit of time in training camp with the Kings, just so they can see him play a bit and get a sense for how he may have improved over the summer, before heading to the G-League Stockton Kings.

Javin's NBA dream is on hold. He signed with ASK Karditsas of the Greek professional league. It had been in the 2nd division but won that league last year and has moved into the Greek first division. They also signed Jimmy Boeheim Jr this summer so ASK Karditsas will be a team for ACC basketball fans to pay at least a little bit of attention to.

Now I'm confused. I thought we previously established that Sacramento waived him a few days after signing him to a partially guaranteed deal.

Spotrac lists 16 players on the SAC roster, plus Quinn Cook and Sam Merrill with training camp deals, and Keon Ellis and Neemias Queta on two-ways. DJ Steward's deal is categorized as dead.

I believe this puts him in a weird limbo where he can choose to keep playing for the Stockton G League team, but not with any direct connection to Sacramento beyond the partially guaranteed money ($50,000?) he just pocketed. I could be wrong, but I doubt that he's at their training camp.

Sorry, you are right that he almost certainly won't be at training camp. Waiving him was pretty much an automatic decision as the Exhibit 10 deal is specifically designed for him to be waived and then get a bonus (as much as $50k) for reporting to the G-League team (and sticking with them for a few months, at least). I'm sure that DJ will report to the G-League club and collect his bonus. It is likely larger than his regular G-League salary.

  7. I am extremely excited for this season -- many good Duke storylines to follow.

First, the Pelicans. We got Ingram in all star form, and now Zion looking like he did at Duke. How far can this Pelicans team climb with CJ running the team? Very optimistic about this team if health permits.

Tatum and the Celtics -- can they get it done and win the championship this year? Every superstar feels like has moments of failure before rising; did Tatum have to lose last season to win this season. The Udoka fiasco adds to the soap opera aspect of the team.

Speaking of soap opera, after the Game of Thrones episode of the Nets off season, just super curious on how Kyrie, KD and Simmons will play. After listening to JJ's pod, I've become a Simmons supporter and hope he does well. I hope the whole team does well and shuts up the detractors. People love a redemption story. And of course there's also Seth on the team.

Paolo on the Magic. Can he get Rookie of the Year? When am I going to take him in fantasy?

What about Tre? There's some low key hype on the bigger role he's gonna play on the Spurs; he may be in for a great season. And talking about Jones, I wish Tyus can get out of the shadow of Morant. He's a better player than the minutes he's getting.

And of course there are all the other Duke players. Man I just think it's a fantastic time to be a Duke fan following the NBA.

I didn't realize the NBA Preseason started today in Japan; I'm watching a rebroadcast on NBA TV.

For what it's worth, Golden State beat Washington 96-87. James Wiseman led the Warriors with 20. In his national homecoming, Rai Hachimura had 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Wizards. Vernon Carey Jr played 8 minutes off the bench and had 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

The teams play a second game on late Saturday night -- actually Sunday -- starting at 1am ET.

I have my fantasy draft in 2 weeks and am debating the same thing. Zion and Joker are my keepers. I won the league title last year with Zion on IR all season but RJ and Kyrie gave me some good Dukie representation. I would stream Tyus and a couple other Dukies whenever I could.

As for Paolo, I am trying to project his stats to see where I should draft him. I think he can score 20ppg and I bet he gets a few assists per game too. Throw in about 6-7 rebounds per game and he’s looking like a fourth or fifth round pick in my 12-team league.

As you probably know, Tyus signed a 2 year, $29 mil deal to stay in Memphis. He’s one of the highest paid backup PGs in the NBA now. He clearly wanted to stick around that team as there was probably a starting job out there if he really wanted it (though likely not on a very good team). I suspect Memphis has seen how much better the team is when he is on the floor. I bet he improves on last year’s 21 minutes per game and maybe gets about 25mpg.

Happy to see Luke Kennard be the leading scorer against Bishop Sycamore, err, Maccabi Raanana.

I wonder if the NBA has actual rules on who can and cannot be scheduled as an exhibition opponent. Maccabi Raanana was the team that our Justin Robinson started with last season and they play in Israel's second division. They brought their intended roster, which only allows two players that do not count as locals, and then filled the roster with some American players who were available and then also 42 year old Leandro Garcia-Morales.

Grayson had a nice little 14 point night in the Bucks’ first preseason game.

I’m seeing 15 for Allen and Bolden scored 3 on a 3-pointer! Bolden did have 4 fouls in about 5 minutes though.

    SATURDAY

Memphis beat Milwaukee 107-102. Grayson Allen started and played 18 minutes, and Marques Bolden came off the bench in the 4th quarter. Tyus Jones did not play for the Grizzlies.

In the Japanese rematch, Golden State beat Washington 104-95. Vernon Carey Jr scored 1 point and had 4 rebounds in 7 minutes off the bench.

    SUNDAY

Boston beat Charlotte 134-93. Jayson Tatum started, played 22 minutes, and scored 16 in the win. Mason Plumlee started at center and had 8 points in 15 minutes. Mark Williams played 11 minutes off the bench and scored 2 points.

Houston beat San Antonio by almost the same score, 134-96. On the losing end, Tre Jones got the start and scored 7 points in 21 minutes. In the battle of rookie defensive specialists, Tari Eason of the Rockets had a better debut than Jeremy Sochan of the Spurs.

Phoenix hosted the Adelaide 36ers and lost, 134-124. I didn't see the game, but here are the highlights. I assume a kangaroo came onto the court and kicked Chris Paul in the groin:

The top YouTube comment: "Luka really broke the Suns".

Frank Jackson did not play for Phoenix. Internet sensation Kai Sotto -- the Chet Holmgren of the Philippines -- did play for the 36ers, scoring 11 points in 18 minutes off the bench.

When does grad_devil take over? The Devils in the NBA page was last updated during the NBA Finals. I might be able to handle a low-stakes preseason, but with 28 or more Duke players in the NBA, we may have reached the point where almost every game in the regular season will have at least one of them in action.

Five games on Monday. Kyrie Irving (#10) and Paolo Banchero (#3) make the NBA Top Plays video:

Irving started for the Nets and had 9 points in 19 minutes as Brooklyn lost to Philadelphia 127-108. Seth Curry did not play (left ankle).

Banchero started at power forward for the Magic, played 24 minutes, and had 8. Wendell Carter Jr, the starting center, added 5 in 21 minutes. Orlando lost to Memphis 109-97. Tyus Jones scored 6 in 21 minutes off the bench for the Grizzlies.

Quinn Cook had one 3-pointer in 9 minutes as a reserve in Sacramento's 105-75 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Los Angeles Clippers beat Portland 102-97. Luke Kennard played 4 minutes and hit his lone 3-point attempt in the win. Justise Winslow took the loss with 6 points in 16 minutes off the bench.

Jack White did not play in Denver's 112-101 loss to Oklahoma City.

Thanks for the shout out! I usually promote the page in this thread once the current season starts. Unfortunately, the page where I scrape the data doesn't keep preseason stats, so I've got nothing until the real games start.

I do appreciate your updates, brevity! I know it's got to be a lot of work. If anyone knows an easily scrape-able site that also keeps preseason stats, send it my way.

As a friendly reminder to everyone tonight we have preseason action with Detroit at New York, and then we all get to watch Zion and the Pelicans play at Chicago. Of course this is assuming the Dukies on these teams play. I hope so, because I’m really anxious to see Zion for the first time in over a year.

Zion started the game along with McCollum. No Ingram yet. Zion does look quicker on his feet.

517 days since Zion played!!! Looks like Ingram is in street clothes?

Zion already with a monster block (that was wrongly called goaltending, imho) and a monster slam! He’s definitely slimmed down a little bit. Looks really good.
