Finally back to America. Watched Friday's episode and got three $600 clues, for a total of $1800.

Frankly I surprised myself when I knew the french word for duck. Never studied French even for one day. Not sure where or how I learned it.

Back to novelty rap: not sure if "O.P.P." (1991) is considered novelty or not. A lot of rap music in that era was light and pop-oriented. Filled a need though; rock music was probably at its all-time worst from about 1986-1991, and R&B music was very hit-or-miss.

Today the very first clue out of the gate was the easiest thousand bucks ever.

Thereafter, there were several easy clues in a single category that were surprising triple stumpers.

Final was really easy, too, and yet it managed to stump two out of the three. Had I been playing I would have answered it in Italian, just for fun.

Alas, it was, though I blanked on it for a split second. I started reciting the line and it came to me.

Agreed on how easy Final was. I've been to Rome, though, and immediately thought of all the people throwing coins in the Trevi Fountain. I would guess that both of the contestants that got this wrong probably haven't been to Rome. Even if they were aware of Trevi Fountain's existence, they probably wouldn't think of the coin-tossing if they hadn't witnessed it.

La Fontana di Trevi is pretty famous, though, and even if you haven't been there you should probably know about the coins. On the other hand, maybe you have to be of a certain age to have heard the song 'Three Coins in the Fountain' or to have seen any of the famous movies that feature it.

Got $2600 tonight, but really mad at myself for missing out on 12,700 on Final.
I could see the painting in my mind. I KNEW the exact painting. And I knew the painter's name, too, but then in my mind I confused it with another famous painter whose name begins with the same letter, has the same number of syllables, and sounds like it comes from the same nationality (can't say more without giving the whole thing away, in case others haven't watched it yet), and I said the wrong name aloud.
When I heard the answer, it was immediately obvious that I had made a stupid error that cost me the entire pile of loot!!! So mad at myself. Maybe one of you will get it right. It was a difficult question but not as hard as the contestants made it seem.

Another Shot at the Title $400

    10/28
    State Capital Attractions $1200
    Final/Artists $29400 (clue below)

Sabena Airlines commissioned a painting by this artist, "L'Oiseau de Ciel", a bird whose body is filled with clouds in a blue sky

This is the correct approach. The recap of this episode has a series of comments that are all like "Never heard of the airline, never heard of a painting of that name, oh well." The clue describes the painting for a reason. I never heard of such a painting, but I pictured what it would look like and thought, hey, that reminds me of a much more famous painting.

I was surprised that all three contestants were not only stumped, but thought of the same wrong artist.

Pickings are usually slim during the Tournament of Champions, but they left a lot of money on the board tonight.

I was being distracted so didn't get to really weigh in on several missed questions, but I still managed $4200.

I'm sure some of you undoubtedly did a lot better.

Ken Jennings spoke to the rust of the contestants, but I think that was mostly just a tough game. I also missed every one of the "Parliament of Vowels" clues that the contestants missed. Initial confusion on the nature of the clues, plus my apparent lack of knowledge of names for the world's parliaments, slayed me.

That category was poorly designed. I also got none if them. They wete difficult plus it’s just not natural to try to think of words based on them having two or three common vowels in them.

I actually found the whole game to be poor in terms of clues.

Sometimes I think the writers come up with a category so difficult that they just decide to save it for the Tournament of Champions, not realizing that it might be too hard even then. Parliament of Vowels was like this. Same with Before, During, and After and Triple Rhyme Time in past years.

Yeah. Parliament of Vowels may have been the single worst set of five clues I have ever seen in all the years i have been watching Jeopardy.

On tonight's show they did the opposite, and the category was about Hawaiian words. It was a lot easier and a lot more fun, too.

You can add Anagrams of Each Other as a difficult category given the time limit, though Brian was crazy good at them.
