Liberty game at Duke Softball Stadium. Liberty leads 2-0 in M3.
Garner-MacKinnon pitched 2 scoreless innings then Jala Wright gave up 2 runs, only 1 earned, in T3.

Duke scores 3 in B3 to take the lead, 3-2. 2 small-ball runs, then Vega solo HR.
Duke adds 2 more in B5, leads 5-2.
Now 7-2 after 6.
That's the final, 7-2 Duke. Liberty had a 15-game winning streak coming in.
#15 Duke is now 25-5, with a 5-game winning streak. Next up is a big weekend series with #7 FSU in Durham.
On Duke's website, the pitching staff's overall ERA is 1.95, lead by Curd at 1.44 (6-0), Walker 0.49 (7-1) and Garner-MacKinnon 1.50 (2-0).
Its a little surprising since Jala Wright (2.30, 6-2) and Claire Davidson (3.53, 4-2) are the returning rotation pitchers from last year.
Duke's ERA is 26th in Division 1 thus far (the listing shows 2.02), so its good but not great. FSU's team ERA is 1.99 (24th overall).
FSU's team batting average is .314 (29th overall) and Duke's is .326 (19th overall). So the teams are very closely matched.
I’m a bit skeptical of some of our pitching numbers, just based on baseball principles. For example Garner Mackinnon doesn’t strike people out (and walks people) which suggests a far worse pitcher than her ERA. Similar situations with less extreme numbers for Davidson and Walker (Walker is most certainly benefitting from a lot of luck).
Statistically, Curd and Wright are likely our best pitchers going forward but both have had walk issues this year which has led to occasional blowups. We will need them to be in control this weekend
What might be a little misleading is the team ERA of 1.95 does not count 29 unearned runs so the slightly below average fielding performance is not accounted for. On straight runs per game, the team has let up 85 runs (56 earned) in 201 innings which is 2.96 runs per full 7-inning game.
Duke's opponents have let up 33 unearned runs, so you can't say that it has cost us much if anything at this point. I don't believe any games have been lost (only 5 losses) due to fielding errors. It may happen, but when it does its just part of the game. I think we've seen improvement lately in the team's overall fielding including freshmen Vega, Baker and Jennings.
Game 1 vs. FSU in Durham now in B2, FSU leads 2-0.
