    Interesting that even for a women's sport that only exists for women (so male viewers could not have participated in the sport), the viewership is STILL (much) higher among males. I assume that's mostly because males watch ESPN at a much greater clip...thanks for providing the numbers.

    Yes, it is heavily influenced by when the games are. For instance, when there are a bunch of softball games in a row, the disparity will decrease in the later games. You have viewers tuning in to see Duke or Stanford, viewers tuning in for any softball, viewers who will surf all of the ESPN channels looking for live events, and viewers who are already on an ESPN channel and stay there. Women watch sports at a reasonable rate, but the big difference is that men are much more likely to consume any media outside of the live event.
