Dariq Whitehead Undergoes Surgery for Foot Fracture

Supposed to play in the fall, but it stinks he loses some of that prep time. What is it with Duke players' feet?

    Let me guess … metatarsal?

New coach, but similar injuries already!

Wouldn’t be a true Duke season without a foot injury.

But in all seriousness, prayers up for Dariq’s foot and physical/mental health. He’s in good hands at Duke with their medical doctors and resources. And experience with the Duke men’s basketball team.

    Heal up, big fella.

A real bummer, but thankfully it's still early and it sounds like he'll be healed up by early in the season. He does miss practice reps during a critical period of development, but I'm not jumping out the window over this.

True, but he did wear a half tennis ball in his sneaker until he got the right diagnosis. Pain from bone chip on hip registered as coming from his foot.

It's ok, he is only our best player.

Feet were not designed to play basketball.

The timing of this news alongside the release of the sports science video this morning is quite unfortunate.

Unfortunate injury. However the depth chart should cover it, until his return. Grandison was nursing an injury. Proctor,Schutt, and Catchings can all step up. Next man up is the phrase.

It’s always the 5th Metatarsal and I don’t know what that even means.

There is some evidence that wearing shoes weaken feet as well. But here falling from great heights over and over is likely the problem. It is amazing that some players never sustain a foot injury.
