This is why I never comment on a round until it's over.

Alex will be playing Arnie's Invitational next week. The holiday break came at a bad time for him, he was hot with finishes of T11, T4, and T5 immediately before. He hasn't been quite the same player in 2023. He took this week's Honda off this year, hopefully tuning up and getting his mojo back.

After getting to even par and in good shape to make the cut; Adam took a snowman on the par 4 11th. Likely will miss the cut this week.

He makes the MSN front page for his troubles:

Adam is in serious danger of losing his tour card, he's projected FedEx #150 after this weekend. The season is ramping up, the fields are only getting stronger. His best finish is a T30, then a T42. He'll probably have to play the opposing tournaments (Puerto Rico Open, Puntacana, Barbasol, Barracuda) where they get 3/5 of the points but the fields are weak, and hope he snags a couple of top-5s.

Kevin also flirting with disaster, he's projected #121. Best finish T20.

Kevin got a sponsor's exemption, good for him. Pretty sure he was not on the list when I looked earlier.

    Money for Boutier, Maguire, Boonchant
They all got a payday. Not amazing, but good start on LPGA

And Mina Harigae (on my list as a Dukie) finished 49th. Hopefully Boonchant will have a strong rookie season with Celine and Leona picking up more wins.

Alex goes off at 7:27 Thursday, Kevin at 1:23. Probably the toughest field so far this season.

Nice to see the Duke men's golf team performing well in Dorato Beach, Puerto Rico. In the fourteen team field Duke finished 2nd. Frosh William Love was first and junior Ian Siebers third.

We spent Christmas vacation at the Dorado Beach hotel back in 1968 and 1969. Chi Chi Rodriguez was their touring pro and I met him. I also played their courses at the tender age of 14 and 15!

Did you fence with him with your putter?

Ok, going against my rule of commenting mid-round, but maybe I can reverse jinx Alex.

    He's playing terrible! +3 through 9.

What in the world has happened to Alex?! An opening score of 39 41, 80 is not him.

Whatever he had going at the end of the calendar year (T11, T4, T5) has abandoned him. He's at the very bottom of the field and will not play the weekend. A shame, this is one of the big paydays on the schedule with a purse of $20M (last week's Honda purse was $8.4M), so just making the cut would have gotten him significant coin.

I hope he gets his **** together fast. Next week he plays in his first fifth major, The Players Championship.

After reaching the low 20s in the FedEx Cup standings (#22 from memory), in 2 months he will have tumbled to around 50. C'mon, Alex!

Golf can be a very fickle game, even at the "pro" level. Often time a very fine line between playing well and not playing so well. And not always easy to figure out why and to correct it.
