Looks like Alex will be the only one to tee it up at the CJ Cup this week, against the strongest field (by far) of the young season. Another no-cut event, so Alex is guaranteed some FedEx points, and a chance for him to make a statement.

Alex tees off at 1:13 Thursday. A bit disappointed he didn't draw Rory or Scottie as a partner the first 2 days. Y'know, so we could see him standing to the side while the TV covered every tee shot and putt of the others .

One way to fix that. Go low!

Just noticed Julian Suri (D'13) is in the Mallorca, Spain field this week and carded an even par 71 (T63) in the opening round. He has made the cut two times out of the last five in Europe. Back in the States, Go Alex.

After a birdie at 12, Alex is -3 and T14. If he can squeeze out another birdie he'll be sitting in the top 10.

And he promptly goes bogey-bogey. No more commenting mid-round from me.

Alex had a decent 2-under round today to move up a few spots...unfortunately, Jon Rahm shot 9-under.

Alex is playing with Scottie Scheffler tomorrow at 10:53. Maybe he can pick up some tips from one of the hottest golfers in the world.

Alex had a crappy day...but played better than Scottie.

Another rough day for Alex. Even though it was a limited field so he was guaranteed points, he will be dropping in the FedEx Cup standings.

On to Bermuda next week, where he had one of his better finishes last year so maybe he likes the course. He's certainly getting his frequent flyer miles (Japan last weekend, South Carolina this).

Adam is also in the Bermuda field.

Pulling for Alex and Adam at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Meanwhile, Julian Suri is playing in the Portugal Masters. Also, the Korn Ferry Qualifying tournament begins Nov. 4. Our guy Ryan Blaum is entered.

Interesting back nine for Adam today in Bermuda, six birdies, one bogey, a par, and a triple bogey for 34. With another 34 on the first nine he opened with 68. Alex has yet to start.

Alex opened with a very nice 65 and is T13 with a few left on the course.

Golfers tearing up the course. Alex shoots a decent round of -2 and drops 18 spots. So not so decent, I guess. Adam goes -6 overall and makes the weekend on the cut line. Rare to see a cut line so low.

Still, Alex within 6 shots of the lead and 4 of a top-10. Looks like a stormy weekend in Bermuda, but if he handles the conditions well it will be his best tournament of the young season.

Ugh. Alex has a triple-bogey otherwise he'd be near the top 10. Otherwise a fine round. He won't win, but a strong round tomorrow could get him into that top 10.

These darned courses on Bermuda -- the water hazards have sharks and sting rays.

This is Alex’s MO. He has the ability to birdie every hole but blows-up too often. It seems he is very close to challenging for wins and will hopefully find that consistency.

In fairness, it's the MO of many pro golfers. It's hard to win on the tour. No teammates to cover your flubs. You can be playing very well but there's at least a dozen other guys that can be playing just as well (and better) that weekend. And just 1 mis-hit can be the difference over a 4-day tournament between winning and a T5.

Wind conditions making for a challenging final round for everyone today.

Alex finishes birdie-birdie for a solid -3 on a windy day, overall -13 and currently T10. Some golfers still on the course, but he should end in the top 15. Very good weekend for Alex!

Alex just misses his 1st top-10 of the season (T11) and is projected to move up 33 spots to #51 in the FedEx standings.

Golf can be "cruel". Ben Griffin was in the lead, playing very well and -5 on the day through 11...then he went +6 on his next 5 holes. He lost by 2 strokes. I feel sorry for him, even if he's a Tar Heel.

Through October 30, our lads have the following positions in the FedEx Cup standings:

    Alex -- 51
    Streels -- 67
    Adam -- 109

Next event is at the Mayakoba course near Playa del Carmen in the Yucatan.
