    Duke Women's Soccer 2022

No. 2 Duke Women's Soccer opens the season tomorrow Aug. 8 against Georgia in Athens at 6pm ET. I don't see any viewing or listening options and the stats feed is restricted to press only. It seems Twitter is the only option to follow: https://twitter.com/DukeWSOC

Ack, 90 degrees in Athens now with a dewpoint of 73...won't be hugely better at game time...seems crazy early for futbol.

After a short weather delay the game is scoreless with 13 minutes to play in the first half.

So. Michelle Cooper and Fr. Carina Lageyre are not playing in August due to representing the United States in the U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica.

Georgia wins 2-1. MacKenzie Pluck with the single goal for Duke. Lots of work to do before the regular season!

Coop, who is serving as captain, scored the opening goal in the US U-20 women’s team’s 3-0 win over Ghana in Alajuela, Costa Rica on Thursday. Next up is the Netherlands on Sunday in San Jose.. Fox Sports 2 is broadcasting the US matches.

It's worth emphasizing that she was named as captain. That's a pretty big honor on a national-level team. We will definitely miss her on the field with the Duke team until the U-20s wrap up their World Cup stint.

At the half in Koskinen, no score between #2 Duke and #12 South Carolina.

This thread is a great reminder to me that I need to find the schedule and make to some games. Would have loved to see that goal by Katie Groff

Adding this link to the schedule: https://goduke.com/sports/womens-soccer/schedule

My daughter will be a freshman at Clemson this year, I'll have to tell her to go see the away game on Oct 20

How generous of US Soccer to bow out of the U-20 World Cup early.

Michelle (Cooper) appeared to pick up a late, non-contact injury to her calf in that one, and was subbed out around the 80th minute. Does anyone know if that was anything more than a hydration cramp? I couldn't find news about it this morning.

Duke leads ECU 1-0 early in the 2nd half. Its a record crowd at East Carolina and the home team is doing a good job slowing down Duke's game thus far. Duke's goal was by Sophie Jones on a lob pass which was untouched and found its way into the net.

That's a final, 1-0 Duke. We really need Michelle Cooper's scoring punch!

Duke defeats UNCG 3-1 at Koskinen. Duke lead in shots 22-2 and most of the starters were out late in the game. Maggie Graham had 2 goals and Burnell had one. Cooper and Lageyre returned from their World Cup play. Cooper did not start but played 44 minutes and took 6 shots (no goals, 1 assist).

Hope this is the year for NCAA championship. Long overdue for Robbie Church.

Our Keeper, Ruthie Jones, had a tough night. Too passive on the first goal and way too aggressive on the 2nd. Going to need her to live up to her star billing if this team hopes to go far. Can’t have too many nights like tonight against quality opponents

Tennessee had a couple of good opportunites to score in the last few minutes including a 30-ft shot off the crossbar and an untouched ground ball right through the box. Either Ruthie is not in her groove yet or the defense has not jelled yet (or some of both). Then there was the UT goal that should have been ruled good in the first half. It could have easily been a tie or a loss.

I was trying to be restrained in my thoughts as even the best players have off nights. I have two high level keepers for children so I live the keeper world 24/7. Normally Ruthie is sensational. She was just off last night. It happens.

The team definitely needs work but wow, what an exciting comeback to get a W! Credit to the squad for not giving up when they were down so late. Cooper is everywhere, she’s so much fun to watch.
