"Once someone is infected they can be sick for 2-4 weeks. The infection period is categorized into two periods:

Invasion period (0-5 days): People typically present flu-like symptoms (fever and body aches) and swollen lymph nodes.

Rash period (1-3 days of fever): A distinctive rash typically starts in the face, which then moves to extremities. A distinct sign of monkeypox is vesicles that can form, as seen below."
Presents a lot like Lyme and RMSF.

not good...and on top of that our area (far North) just had a verified case of Meat Tick whatever it is...victim ended up being treated by my Duke trained allergist, did not realize the bites could cause anaphylaxis, yikes!

This is certainly something to take seriously and investigated, but it is much to early to be getting anxious about this.

Seriously, especially when there is a stockpile of vaccine (enough for everyone in America) that can stop the spread of monkey pox.

I just don't get the hype for this...other than perhaps the news trying to be alarmist to drive eyeballs to their media outlets.

Well,as we have learned "having enough vaccine" is only part of the battle.

In the thread's defense, it's featured a lot of monkey puns so far...which is subject to diminish based on the actual threat level, which so far, I agree appears minimal.

NC's Commissioner of Agriculture now has the meat allergy from a tick bite. Which means he cannot eat BBQ. I'm surprised he wasn't fired from his job. I believe I heard that he was trying the de-sensitization treatments, probably at Duke.

My best friend's wife has that. She found out by almost dying when visiting the UK to give an academic lecture and afterwards eating an hors d'oeuvre with meat in it. Fortunately she is vegan, and just strayed that one time because she was famished.

I think the smallpox/monkeypox vaccine is much more effective against infection and durable than the COVID one...and it's a disease that doesn't mutate like COVID. At least, that's my understanding.

But you're right, seemingly having a vaccine isn't always the magical end ...

Who declared a global health emergency?

    WHO did.

That's what I'm asking you. Who did?
