The wind is absolutely brutal today, and it is affecting the approach shots. Which is unfortunate for Tiger, who is very reliant on his iron play these days.

That being said, Matsuyama is making an early charge today. 2-under so far on his round, and within 5 feet of another birdie at the moment at #6. There haven't been many under-par rounds today, but he's off to a massive start.

Scheffler quietly cruising along at -5, -2 on the day. He is having quite the year. Tiger had a brutal start, but seems to have found his stroke lately and is at +1, +2 for the day.

Yeah, his last 12-13 holes have been pretty terrific given the conditions. But that had to be a frustrating missed distance there. Still, he's gonna be playing on the weekend, and perhaps within 4 of 2nd place which is pretty amazing.

The challenge for everyone is that Scheffler is trying to run out and hide.

Eldrick cards a 74. He’s +1 heading into the weekend but the main thing is he’s around for the weekend. Doesn’t look like anyone will beat Scheffler this weekend. This would be 4 wins in his last 6 starts this season I think. He’s on a possible once in a career type roll if he wins this weekend. After bogeys on 4 of the first 5, Tiger played the final 13 holes at -2. Looks pretty darn good all things considered.
